for something that says "there's no such thing as this" I think Free Energy should be acceptable or the question should be rephrased if necessary. Free energy doesn't exist so it does fit the question.

The idiom is actually "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch." One of those rare occassions where the use of 'ain't' is actually correct...

Maybe I'm in a philosophical mood but what I immediately thought was "There's no such thing as free will". I suggest the question be modified to "There's no such thing as a this" to remove that answer. (You can't have it as an alternate answer because of the will/willy conflict.)

Another one for tax-free. And free ride instead of free lunch. In real life I have on ever heard of "ride". When seeing the answer was lunch, I vaguely remember I had seen that before on this site maybe even this quiz, but have not heard of it besides that.

Even if the clue is meant tongue in cheek, Masons experience ongoing discrimination and it really would be best to change this clue. Even just out of respect for those who died in Nazi concentration camps. Thank you.

+4
Level 74
Jul 4, 2015
I think "free ride" can be used in many ways such as, "No more free rides for you" or "I wish I was the owner's son so I could get a free ride, too," etc. "There's no such thing as a free lunch" is a recognized idiom. (Also, "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.") This is just my humble opinion which, of course, is always correct. ;-)

Can you please help us taking this quiz by improving one of your questions?

When you asked for "Oft-requested song at concerts" ... I was trying to think of some name for an Encore ... and came up empty-handed ... I think your clue is too general for the answer here ...

If you are going to the trouble of saying "Song by Tom Petty" ... then can you please just do the same by using the clue "Song by Lynyrd Skynyrd"?? Or if you think that is too easy, then could you please consider evolving the question to "oft-requested song at Southern Rock Concerts"?

Thanks for taking this into consideration!

But "freestyle" isn't a stroke. It's an event where competitors are "free" to use any stroke they wish. As it turns out, all swimmers at the top of the world use the "crawl" stroke

Never realized this either, but thinking about it now, it makes perfect sense.

It be pretty funny, if there was ever a swimmer who knew he was going to finish dead last, to swim all 4 different strokes (and maybe even throw in a few others he made up) in the freestyle event just to make this point.

"Road without traffic lights or stop signs" I literally read that as meaning a road without painted lines and also without any legal restrictions at all. That you simply meant a motorway just never occurred to me!

I've just realised I msread "version of computer solitaire", I thought it said "software" so I thought "Freeware". Kicking myself because I've played and won over 10,000 games of Freecell.

Yea I thought of a place where there usually would be traffic lights but not on this occasion,so free crossing and something similar. No off a road that goes straight and doesnt have roads that cross it so there is no need for traffic lights.

It really sounds like the absence of traffic lights is a key feature. while that is just a logic consequence not a prerequisite that makes something a freeway. (plenty of roads without them that arent a freeway, like in a residential area.) (now it sort of feels like "place without elephants" answer : "a bank" well yes there are no elephants there, but there is no reason for them to be there...)

Who makes the final decision about if any changes or additions are made to a nice Quiz like this one?

I'd like to see one added for:----> What to call out when playing tag and you've been found --> "Ollie, Ollie ...._____?

Recall the answer ----> "Oxen Free" ?

I agree there should also be

a) Born Free (movie about lioness Elsa)

And consider changing clue words for Free Bird to:

b) Oft-requested song @ S.Rock Concerts (is a better clue)

And is there some Jet Punk limit to the number of clues possible for any Quiz ? or not ?

No such thing as a free lunch? BS, my lunch today was free. It was free of lettuce, tomato, meat, cheese, and everything else that isn't bananas or peanut butter.

Also if a free lunch at a hotel or conference isn't free, then nothing really is, because everything has a cost associated with it. To deny the existence of free lunches renders the word 'free' basically meaningless.
