Johnson is terrible. Knives Out was okay; hardly a masterpiece. One of those films like The Sixth Sense that gets dumber the more you think about it. But Bay is obviously worse. Even his explosions suck and that's supposed to be what he's good at.
Call me a snowflake, but I found the inclusion of cities that suffered major explosions/bombings - in which thousands died - on the otherwise rather light-hearted list of "Things that go Boom!" very insensitive.
Seriously though: the title is lighthearted, perhaps, but there is nothing lighthearted about the subject matter, which covers weapons of war (gunpower, grenades, atomic bombs), loss of life (the Maine, Hiroshima, even the asteroid that struck the Yucatan), and natural disasters (volcanos). Perhaps a blander title would suit you, but I don't think anyone is being insensitive just because of the use of "Boom."
I think they should keep it, because sure it took a whole different turn, but that doesn't mean we should prevent it from being on the quiz. It was a dark day in history, but that's why we have to learn about it.
If we're going to nitpick, and I think we all know we are, I don't think the Big Bang can be accurately described as an explosion. I don't mind it being on the quiz, though.
Not knowing much about it, what was the Big Bang if not an explosion? I probably don't even know the real definition of an explosion now I think about it...
I'm no physicist, and I couldn't possibly explain it accurately, but I've read several times that the Big Bang is not really an "explosion", and actually, the term was originally coined in order to mock the idea itself. Something to do with the fact that an explosion is supposed to take place within time and space, whereas the Big Bang created (our) time and space. But don't take my word for it. I'd say I'll look it up, but odds are I won't. Anyway.
You're correct that the term was originally used to mock the theory, it was first proposed by a scientist that was also a Catholic priest. A lot of people in the scientific community at the time dismissed his theory as a desperate attempt from him to make science compatible with The Bible by coming up with something that vaguely resembled the story of God creating everything within a week.
I have been following the situation in Sweden for years and there is nothing bizarre about hearing of grenade violence in Sweden. Of course when Fox and subsequently Trump made mention of what is happening there, the liberal industrial complex went berserk in denial. Much better to live in blissful naivety isn't it?
It was a total stab in the dark that I got grenade correct. Personally, I was looking for a more ironic explosive device being used in Sweden --- like an Irish car bomb (yes, I know it's a drink, but I hope you get the point). Using grenades to create explosions doesn't seem all that bizarre. That's precisely what they're made to do.
That is literally what the big bang is.
Yeah, I really wonder why
