Was Burma, now Myanmar? At least either should count (though this quiz has to lead with a letter). But why the late change? Myanmar will soon enough be a chapter best forgotten.
Both type-ins will work as always. As of May 20th, we made a site-wide change from Burma to Myanmar. At some point, we have to acknowledge that the government of Myanmar is here to stay. On JetPunk we try to see the world the way it is, not the way we wish it would be.
Myanmar is already slowly transitioning back to a non-authoritative, democracy thanks to Aung San Suu Kyi and it shows no signs of wanting to change back to Burma. Besides, Myanmar isn't some made-up word that the military randomly thought of to show how powerful they are. Myanmar and Burma are two different ways of saying the same word, and the British used Burma because it was easier to say and remember.
How come more people got Yemen, Argentina, Canada, South Africa, Spain, Venezuela, Ukraine, Kenya, South Korea, Colombia, Poland, Iraq, and Uganda than Tanzania? Since they're in order it doesn't make much sense.
Yeah- second that- I thought Mexico got left off and had no idea which "N" country was that populated- tried everything to no avail. How has that not been remedied yet?
I did great in the first column but then got bogged down in the middle of column 2. This quiz will take some practice to get them all in the time allowed.
17 of the countries are out of order. Italy should be after Tanzania and South Africa, Myanmar should be after Kenya, South Korea should be after Colombia, Spain should be after Uganda, Algeria should be after Sudan, Poland should be after Canada and Morocco, and Uzbekistan and Peru should be after Angola, according to the populations listed.
A lot of these countries are out of order: Italy shout be behind Tanzania and South Africa, Myanmar should be behind Kenya, south Korea behind Colombia, Algeria behind Sudan, Poland behind morocco and Canada, and Peru should be behind Angola.
I'm always amazed to realize that if Pakistan and Bangladesh hadn't split up in the 1970s, Pakistan would be 3rd on the list, bigger than the US at 342m.
Kinda shocks me that Bangladesh has more population than the big Russia, also Uganda more pop that Canada, and even Yemen who has 25 million more people than its own neighbor Oman who is only 5 million
Nigeria passed Brazil. The info on google is 2021 but considering how high their fertility rate is they've probably added 5-10 million
DRC has probably passed Vietnam considering the DRC has 3% population change and Vietnam is 1%.
I thought Turkey had more than Iran but maybe worldometers shows predictions for the unregistered immigration too.
Sudan has passed Argentina probably based off there high fertility rate
Iraq has passed Ukraine after many have left cause of the war
Look for Nigeria passing Pakistan, Ethiopia passing Japan, DRC passing Egypt, Tanzania passing France, Kenya passing Italy, Uganda passing South Korea and Columbia, Argentina passing Spain, Sudan passing Argentina and Spain, Algeria passing Argentina and Spain, Afghanistan passing Ukraine, Angola passing Saudi Arabia
According to GUS (Central Statistical Office) in Poland currently (last available stats are from the end of year 2022) there are 37.8M people in Poland. I'm not sure why the listed source has 2.8M more. I see that source has a big jump between 2021 and 2022, but that cannot be true. Population in Poland is declining and pandemic even speed it up a lot. I know a lot of Ukrainians came to Poland, but they do not citizenship (not that I would mind). So I guess it counts them too? Just curious from where this big of a difference is from.
Like the quiz, very fast paced. Would love the variations of the quiz. However, I am not sure Ukraine population number is correct. I am fairly sure the sources are solid, though still unbelievable numbers.
2nd: 43
3rd: 45
4th: finally 50 (with 3 seconds left) - I typed "Nepal" out of desperation; couldn't believe it's right lol.
Ukraine has gone done to 35K population and Spain should be in front of Sudan
India recently passed China
