Good quiz! I wonder if you could maybe drop Price Is Right though. No one outside the US would know this. Some countries might have their own version of that show, but obviously a different intro.
I got it and I've never been to the US nor watched the show, except maybe briefly a German incarnation with the same premise. It's been referenced so many times in different tv shows/movies, so I think many of us have a decent chance of guessing it because of that.
best opening narration IMO was Keith David saying, "1000 years ago, superstition and the sword ruled. It was a time of darkness, it was a world of fear, it was the age of Gargoyles."
When I was of the age that I watched it (religiously), I didn't speak any English yet. That's my excuse and I stick to it! -- anyway I am surprised so few got it. Too many kids on this site? ;)
Only 15% got the Outer Limits? I guess the next line really wouldn't make sense to the younger generation: "We control the vertical. We control the horizontal". Those of us of a certain age remember having to adjust those. So those lines really meant something. Outer Limits and Twilight Zone. Two incredible shows.
Not everyone grew up in North America or had access to these shows outside of it. If I gave you a list of shows we watched in my home country I bet you would not have heard of any ;) and yes, yes; I know this is an American website, just replying to the comment in kind.
The Fargo opener is pretty iconic, although I do recognize the show started after this quiz was created.
"This is a true story. The events depicted took place in [location] in [year]. At the request of the survivors, the names have been changed. Out of respect for the dead, the rest has been told exactly as it occurred."
I first discovered Captain Ortega's logbook in a monastery that overlooks the sea. On the morning of February 13, 1634, Captain Ortega anchored his ship behind a barrier reef. That night, they were attacked by pirates. The ship, set afire, sank into the lagoon. Ten days later, the captain was found, delirious, still clutching his logbook. He described a world of tiny, underwater creatures no bigger than his thumb. No one believed him, but you know, there's something about Captain Ortega's story that
makes me believe its true!
I like the Dutch/Belgian intro narrator and song much better btw. Just heard the English one for the first time.
(I always thought the narrator's voice was mesmerizing for lack of a better description, you drifted away on his words and were taken to a different place (underwater ;) ). Ah captivating is perhaps better,)
Not sure how popular it was in other countries, but here it was about as big as the smurfs, but those stayed (relatively) popular for much longer had (more) merchandise and comic books.
I am not from the US and it was actually one of the only 3 answers I got. (The others ones were A-team and Star trek)
Never even heard of Person of Interest.
Yeah, "L'agence tous risques" is "The A-team", now I know… :)
