I got that one the same way, along with Wayne's World and Ferris Bueller. Should have remembered Kill Bill and Toy Story, for the same reason. Surprised Lion King didn't show up, that's another regular. But still a nice mix. Enjoyable quiz even though I only knew half of them.
Typo on "Don't YOU Forget About Me" and I don't think you should accept "Monty Python." I couldn't remember the name of the specific movie, so on a whim I just typed Monty Python. I mean, you wouldn't accept "National Lampoon" for Animal House would you?
John Travolta is a twofer! But that picture is much more his "Saturday Night Fever" haircut than it is his "Grease" haircut… although technically, it really looks like his "Welcome Back Kotter" haircut!!
I tried Romeo + Juliet a few times and wondered how it had to be typed in to be accepted. I know it "only" features a cover of When Doves Cry - the only good thing about that movie.
I realised with 10 seconds to go that it must be Purple Rain, but Romeo and Juliet was my first thought and I couldn't figure out why it wasn't accepted.
I like that movie. There were a lot of other good songs on the soundtrack, for one thing, but I thought it was a reasonably good interpretation soundtrack aside.
That awful song "Oh Yeah" was used in like every other eighties movie. I'm sure "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" was used in more then one movie.
Also, while "I'll Always Love You" will forever be linked to "The Bodyguard" it's worth noting that it was originally a Dolly Parton song (she wrote it) and can be heard in a bar scene in "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore."
Dolly Parton wrote the song in 1973, nine years before that movie. She wrote it for Porter Wagner when she decided to leave their duet act and start a solo career. It was a number one country song for Dolly twice, the first time in 1974..
Also, I'm sorry but "Ecstasy of Gold" is part of an instrumental score. It's neither a "song" or a well known piece of music that achieved new found fame in a movie like "Thus Begat Spartan" or "Ride of the Valkyries." You could just as easily included the sharks theme from "Jaws", the shower scene from "Psycho", the Imperial March from "Empire Strikes Back" and so on.
35 (could probably have gotten Purple Rain, Top Gun, Karate Kid had I thought harder about it. And I just saw the Groundhog Day musical on Broadway last night. :-/
That's seriously the most clickbait-sounding quiz description I've ever seen on this site. Also, I got 24 and I'm woefully ignorant about a lot of movies, especially musicals.
One of the greatest/most ridiculous scenes in film is the bar fight/disco scene from Airplane! The song played is "Stayin' Alive." With that in my head (and not a correct answer), I blanked and couldn't get Saturday Night Fever.
I missed it, too. Couldn't think of the song based on the title. But if I had... I think my first guess would have been Uncle Buck. It featured in that movie, too, and I think more prominently.
Ecstasy of Gold has become very familiar to me. For the last 3 years a remix of it is played before the start of each tournament at the World Series of Poker. I was intrigued and investigated to learn the name of the song.
Really avoided a lot of the usual suspects, The Graduate, Butch Cassidy, Casablanca, The End in Apocalypse Now, Wizard d of Oz, etc. I barely made average. ...but I'll never watch Grease...
While I acknowledge that Ghost is definitely the movie that "Unchained Melody" is best known for, I do find it funny that it's not the movie the song was written for, which was... Unchained.
Have no idea what "Fight the Power" is, and I don't think I've ever seen Do the Right Thing, but I got that on my first guess just thinking that it sounded like a song Spike Lee would put in that movie...
Ecstasy of gold so low is sad to see . wonderful movie wonderful soundtrack .Morroconi was great .His soundtracks for the Sergio Leone westerns were great they added to the scenes they were used in wonderfully .I'm not a Star wars fan but the Williams music in those movies is very well done also.Good to see o brother on here too also a super collection of songs.
Fun quiz. You might want to reconsider using Oh Yeah by Yello in such a quiz as it has been used in a number of films. Notably, in addition to "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" was also used in "Secret of My Success"....both hit films.
I stumbled and I guessed until I ended up with 29/50. I thought I would see The Big Chill on here, a movie with many classic songs. Thanks for the quiz!
Typed in Casablanca because I was sure "As Time Goes By" was going to be one.
