I think Wheel of Fortune is produced in many countries, not just the US. I should know, because I bought vowels myself when I appeared on the New Zealand version.

tiger woods an athlete? huh? I thought of him but thought no he plays golf, he doesnt do anything athletic. Isn't athletics running (sprint, long distance), jumping ( hurdles, polevault) and throwing ( discus, javelin)

That is how I always known it. (and that is what the definition is here, if you join an athletics club, those are the elements you can choose from. Performed on an "athletics track")

So if it IS correct that in america golf is considered athletics, do you consider chess and checkers athletics aswell?

And darts?

What you call "athletics," the US calls "track and field." here, "athlete" means someone who plays a sport. Thus, baseball players, football players, soccer players, swimmers, tennis players, and more are all considered "athletes." Some people might argue that golf isn't quite physical enough to be considered a sport, but at worst it's on the fuzzy borderline. So, yes, most people in the US would consider Woods to be an athlete.
