Should have highest and lowest IQ's per state

I would love to add IQs to this. It is surprising how different average IQs per state are from other metrics that claim to indicate how "dumb" or "smart" each state is. For example, West Virginia is often considered to have the least intelligent population in the US, but their average IQ ranks 37th out of 50 (according to datapandas.org). Also, for those that think intelligence and political affiliation are linked, the data doesn't uphold that theory in every case.

I REFUSE to believe my state is in the bottom 10 in the US (even though I know what people are like here)

Good quiz but an extra minute would be useful to give time for some thinking.

Agree. This really needs a little more time.

Yep. Another minute would be about right.

Yes, I could have figured out a few more with another minute.

Then it becomes less of a figuring out exercise than one of a scattergun approach

That "natural disaster deaths" category was a downer...

Nearly 2000 people died after Hurricane Katrina.

I thought this was quite easy. I feel being a Canadian probably helped more than being American, as we know a lot of the stereotypes of each state and don't over think it.

oh we know them too :-)

That's funny because I am Canadian and I got a 20/20. The thing is I live in Texas, which I guess is like being a foreigner.

I'm surprised that few people guessed Louisiana. I was just thinking about Katrina.

*Farthest from the ocean.

Furthest indicates conceptual distance, farthest indicates geographical distance.

...unless you intended to indicate conceptual distance from the ocean, in which case I believe that you have given the incorrect answer.

Does that include Hudson Bay or is it just counting distance in the US?

I think it does because otherwise North Dakota or something like that would be the answer.

In British English "furthest" is used for both

South Dakota is pretty conceptually distant from the ocean anyway

I probably guessed half of the states on the Gila monster question. Never heard of it!

I feel like a bit of a nerd for how I guess the I90 question - I couldn't think of where I90 was in my head, but I knew that interstates ending with even numbers run east-west and that higher numbers are further north, so I guessed the state that stretched furthest east-west on the northern end of the country.

i didn't know what a gila monster is so i would have gotten them all but instead i simply got less than 100% so this will simply be a terrible start to the week as it is a monday where I'm from. I'll let you guess (hint: it's one of the states on this quiz). (another hint: It's not where GILA MONSTERS are)

The grammar nerd can't hold back. It should be, "Farthest from the ocean."

Loved the quiz. Thanks for all of your great quizzes!

Wow I did not know New Hampshire had a coastline! I thought it went right from Massachusets to Maine
