Could you accept axe or battle-axe for pollaxe?

Level 77

They're different things. Technically, a "battle-axe" doesn't exist in the historical sense. It's more a fantasy weapon category.

Who said battle axes don't or didn't exist? It may be a term for different types but that doesn't make them fictional.

My mother-in-law is a battleaxe so they definately exist !

I mean, the classic giant-bladed, double-edged dwarven war-axe isn't a real thing, but people like the Viking totally had battleaxes.

all I could think of was battle-axe. then I followed the instructions in the caveat and simplified it to just axe. Then I went more specific and said "long battle-axe". Was sad when none worked.

Pollaxe is correct, although I see why you would think it is the other way. It was escaping me for so long. I was thinking, darn-it what do you call that axe that is on a pole... axe pole? No that's not right...

No, WD40 is correct -- "pollaxe" is the variant. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poleaxe

Don't understand why "brass knuckle" or "nunchuck" wouldn't work... Come on... That last "S" is not that important
+1
Level 81
Aug 22, 2023
A "brass knuckle" is called a ring and a "nunchuk" is called a stick. The plurals are actually quite important and all you had to do was tap the S for each! Far less effort required there than in leaving a whiny comment about how difficult it is to spell words properly.
