The only time i have heard of white horses as breaking waves was when Arwen (in the movie...not the book) was casting an elvish spell to protect Bilbo in the Fellowship of the Ring. Ahem...sorry...my nerd is showing...lemme put that away...
I think white-crested is correct aswell. Typing white-crested waves, you come across the word plenty of times. (without the word wave you get too many hits for birds, hence the addition in the search)
Water is clear (colourless). Water in the sea appears to be coloured depending on several factors. Impurities in the water (chemicals, clays, etc.) and the reflection of the sky can also affect the colour (overcast, clear sky, thunderclouds etc.) But often water appears blue because the light (which is composed of the whole spectrum of colours) is scattered by molecules in the water and the water is better at absorbing the long wavelength colours (red, orange etc.) and scattering the blue side for our eyes to pick up.
Water actually is very, very light blue on its own. Deep water appears blue even when overcast. Heavily overcast, it reflects darker. Green microorganisms and shallow sandy water, greenish. The Merrimack River in the pre-1980s: a different exotic color every day depending on which factory competed the hardest to pour in their pollutants. The Cuyahoga had some multicolored cool flames a few times.
Good quiz, few things though. The Harold and Kumar movie was called "Harold and Kumar get the munchies" in the UK. We don't have the particular fast food chain that is the answer. So that does make that question a fair bit harder for us Brits. As far as Vanna White goes, unsurprisngly we don't get the American version of that show, so no chance for us Brits. Though there are plenty of questions like that on these quizes. We also have a different name for the residential telephone directory, but it is not hard to work out as the only difference is the colour. One other thing, can you accept "xmas" for Christmas, for those of us who are too lazy to type the longer word lol.
True, but to be serious, he probably thought of it in the same way as Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, and all the other Jewish singers who release Christmas albums. It's how they earn their living and I enjoy their music regardless of their motives. (Even though I'm Christian, I enjoy listening to the Hanukkah channel during the season, too. Music can be appreciated across cultures.)
Oh, I'm definitely not throwing shade. Even ignoring the countless other hit songs he wrote, Berlin probably would've made enough royalties from that song alone to set him up for life, and more power to him.
The white pages contain lists of telephone numbers for residents of an area, The yellow pages generally list the names of businesses found within the location.
I dunno what’s up with those couple of dictionary definitions near the top of a Google search, but I always thought it was (and how all of the actual weather-related websites as well as Wikipedia define it) as a condition, not the storm itself – sort of like flooding vs. rain, or hail vs. hailstorm.
White nights (term used often in Russia and NE Europe), white wolf, white tie, white power, white man's burden, white wedding, knights in white satin, white nationalism, white cake, white russian, White Chicks, white sands, the White Queen, Betty White, Vanna White... plus you've got different definitions for whitewash and White Out; plenty of material for a sequel.
Haha we just had a White Elephant party in AP Spanish Lit a couple days ago and I got a box of fruit snacks which I didn't want so I flipped them for about $15 at lunch. Good business $
