I tried Slim Shady and then Marshall Mathers. I think I thought I was supposed to come up with the name of the song instead of the artist. Helps to read the directions.
good call, she was the highest grossing artist of the 90s. doesn't mean she's a better artist but it does mean shes gonna show up on a lot of these quizes
I don't think I've ever heard that song before. I certainly don't recognize it by the title. If the QM had picked any of Mariah's other hits...Dreamlover, Always Be My Baby, Hero, One Sweet Day, etc., I would have had it in a heartbeat.
I knew it but had a hard time with the spelling. I tried multiple variations before I finally looked it up. I think the E at the end is what threw me off.
I was singing the song in my head, and could not for the life of me remember who sang it. Tried Bobby Brown, New Edition, Boyz II Men, De La Soul. Just couldn't land on the right answer and was kicking myself when it came up.
I tried Alice Cooper, too. Only one I missed. And I almost lucked into it by trying "Bill Bev Devoe" for Let's Talk About Sex until I remembered it was female and guessed right, but alas it was Bell Biv, not Bill Bev. Once the Cooper tune was in my head I just couldn't come up with the tune. Oh well, still worth 5.
"Du Hast"!! LOL I remember that song. It was a bizarre one-hit-wonder for a German group no one had ever heard of. I wouldn't've been able to name them in a million years.
um just an FYI rammstein is not a one hit wonder. They did many other songs, most of them critical of Americans. . people like you .. for instance .. who don't get their music.. just sayin
Wait - so hits only count if they're in the US? Rammstein was huge here in Australia with many singles: Du Hast, Engel, Stripped, Asche zu Asche, etc. This site has a LOT of members from outside the US, so stop being so narrow minded.
Most of their songs are not critical of Americans, it's obvious you don't follow Rammstein in the slightest.
They are far from a "one hit wonder", they have many hit albums in the U.S. and internationally, they have a huge fan base, and a love affair with fire.
This is a great quiz. Wonderful variety of songs. Any quiz with Weird Al, Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein, Metallica, and Right Said Fred in the same space is cool with me... and Christina Aguilera, Santana, Bel Biv DaVoe... you've got a little bit of everything here.
I nearly missed Stay, because I could only think of Shakespeare's Sisters... and for No Diggity, I had that in my head as coming from Arrested Development.
My kids were in high school in the '90s which is the only reason I managed to get 7 correct. Had no idea about the songs, but just started typing in names I'd heard them mention.
"I want it that way" - knew that was a boyband, but NKOTB, N'Sync and Take That didn't work. WAY too many of those! (I think there's been one called Westlife too)
Slim Shady should not work because there is no reason to type it in. It was a nickname he used. Surely if you know "Slim Shady," you know Eminem. Eminem is the artist. Just type that.
Marshall Mathers raps and performs using 3 different distinct personas: Marshall Mathers, Slim Shady, and Eminem. Eminem is his rapper persona and, as a recording artist, what he is best known as. But it makes sense that the other names would work, too.
I'd be surprised if a third of the people taking this quiz had ever even heard that song. It wasn't exactly tearing up the pop charts. I'm sure some of them are just guessing Radiohead because it's a safe bet on this site if there's a quiz on 90s music Radiohead will be on it.
Classic MC track
They are far from a "one hit wonder", they have many hit albums in the U.S. and internationally, they have a huge fan base, and a love affair with fire.
(both of these are surely more famous than the ones on this quiz)
