Except for those 15 or so that are already pre-2000. Pretty good scores for those, though a bit surprised that only about 1/3 knew Love Shack. Even today, seems you can't avoid that song.
Come on, it's music and it was popular. People can like whatever they want and it does't make you a better person because you listen to some obscure bands no one knows about. Relax.
No, trashing it is an indication of arrogance and immaturity. You don't have to like it. There is no reason to trash something people enjoy. Yeah, it's disposable, but it's not evil. Liking Taylor Swift does not make someone unintelligent or bad. It's just a taste. I know some brilliant people who love some of the artists on this list. Get over yourself.
Thanks for such a true comment. People will always have something to say, but in this case, they’d be wrong. The world would be a better place if everyone was open-minded, about music or anything. Stop judging and we’ll stop judging your ol’ music (that’s pretty good actually!).
Old people usually don't need to turn their music down because they are generally considerate of other people. Young people, due to lack of experience, are less intelligent. They tend to think more of themselves than they should. If not raised to have manners, they tend to think the world revolves around themselves, and are insecure, which manifests itself it their pathetic attempts to assert themselves, like by blasting their music, without any regard for the right to peace and quiet of others around them. This makes them punks.
You want to blast your music? How about if I blast opera at twice the decibel level right back at you. You think that'll make the world a better place?
That’s not (totally) true. I’ve just started high school and I’ve hated most of these songs for the past few years as well as most other pop songs. I think it’s the recurring theme of making every song about love and using dumb editing on the vocals that make me not like the song.
I live next to old people who I have had to complain about because one of them is deaf so instead of wearing headphones or using subtitles they have their TV on at a very high volume from around 10.30pm to about 6pm. No consideration there at all!!
No such thing as a 'bad taste in music', music is literally an individuals interpretation of a collection of sounds, its purely opinion, not fact, so you can't really tell anyone they have a 'bad taste in music'.
That, or if you've listened to a pop 40 radio station in the last 20 years, have young kids who listen to this music, watched the news, followed music in general without liking every song that became a hit, and a dozen other reasons.
I think that is exactly why the opinions are so divided. It is for a wide public, so that as many as people will like it ( usually for a short amount of time untill the next hit comes along) Catchy tunes that easily become popular. But for the same reason often lack depth (not allways thought, but generally they are just songs that make people happy, has something very recognisable (like being in love/heartbroken or misunderstood) or lyrics that tend to stick.
Though POPulair with a wide audience, songs that can be rinsed and repeated often are not considered unique, I think that is what people get opinionated over. That does not mean that the people that bash pop music have good taste either. (often it is just the pop music from a few decades earlier)
Btw there used to be much less songs, now every second several 100s new songs are being produced, so a song that used to be considered special and unique wont be if it is produced now, because there are thousand of similar songs.
You cant argue taste, everyone likes what makes them happy. Personally I like real artists that dont do it for the money, but put soul in their (self written) work, and go from pub to pub to play, just for passion. It is a rare thing, but they excist. More in some genres than others.
I guess music that is about the music, something the artist would play in his livingroom even if there was no audience (or money) just their love for the guitar for instance. Barely anything on the radio qualifies for that. (logically cause those are usually pushed by record labels/managers)
The above is my personal opionion and taste, people that like other stuff arent any less. Though there is a bigger chance of a click with people that have the same interest
Agree. Considering that pop music originated the mid-1950s I think there are many singers who would be surprised at being omitted from this list. Maybe do quizzes on each decade?
No, no, no! If older people don't get a lot of the answers, it's okay. If younger people don't get a lot of the answers, it's not worth making a quiz about. Older people only possess worthless information, and younger people should never learn anything about things that happened before they were born. It might damage their fragile self-esteem. Welcome to JetPunk.
Oooo look at all the edgy people that are bashing these songs. I don't like 99% of them but hey, everyone can like what they want. You probably all listen to some rubbish screaming rock or something anyway, at least you can hear the words in most of these
You defended people's right to like whatever music they want without being judged . . . and then immediately judged people for listening to a certain genre of music. Hypocritical much?
Ever heard the phrase, "Don't YUCK My YUM"? If someone else likes this music, it's none of your business to criticize that. You probably like something that a lot of people hate, but it would take a mean person to make fun of you for that.
Same. I was about to comment the same thing but you beat me to it. I kept singing “love yourself” over and over and gave up, never heard the song, or never paid attention to who sang it.
I missed a bunch, how about a gigantic, I didnt care or like a lot of the songs on the list, there are some olderones I liked but the newer ones I coudlnt guess who did them. haha
Go and actually listen to music from the 50's and 60's. You might be surprised to find a lot of the stuff that showed up on the pop charts is actually pretty awful.
Might as well replace that song if you're going to allow "Jackson". Or remove the MJ song. But I'd love* to meet the person who is scratching their head going "I know Curtis Jackson did that song but what does he call himself again?"
i always wonder this - it's shown up on other featured quizzes so i suspect it's an issue with default RegEx name type-ins that should probably be fixed. anyone typing britney ends up with a y left over for the next answer - qm could you sort it out?
No, it's credited to OutKast. It was on OutKast's double-album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. I get that it wasn't on Big Boi's part of the album and Andre 3000 was the main performer, but take it up with OutKast if you feel the song is credited incorrectly.
all pretty easy however I've never heard of First Class. Even when looking up the song it doesnt ring a bell. Looking at the stats, it feels like the song is too niche for this quiz
Criticising criticism shows a lack of understanding. There are professionals in all the artistic fields whose job it is to objectively criticise things. If this is invalid, they are all wasting their time - everything is just a matter of opinion.
Filet mignon? No better than Macdonalds.
Your kid’s artwork? The new Van Gogh.
You might enjoy trashy novels. Does that make them good?
What I like and what I think is objectively good are not always the same. I like McDonald’s. I’m not a fan of opera. Do you see how it works?
I am thoroughly disappointed in myself as Will Smith did cross my mind for that song but I didn't try it because I didn't think he would be there. It was the only one I didn't get
Can ya'll stop showing criticism to people who enjoy these songs? Gosh, nobody asked if this music was trash. If I were to ask you if my music sounded bad, I'm pretty sure you would criticize me too. You just are so engulfed into your "better music" that you forget people who enjoy the things you make fun of have feelings too.
Why do people feel the need to bash pop?? How can it be mainstream of everybody hates it?? 🤔 I think you like it, I think you sing it, I think you dance to it 😆
Trashing it is an indication of intelligence.
"Turn that racket down you young punks!"

Fixed the typo in the quiz title^

I would understand just Britney, but looking up "Britne" on Google yields results about Britne Oldford, an actress.
Also isn't No Scrubs more of an R&B song? I'd argue that popular isn't the same as pop
It samples Glamorous by Fergie which Millennials and younger would typically know
