how sweet it is is also sung by james taylor even though marvin gaye sang it first and also Natural Woman was written and performed by carole king

The years make it clear that those are different versions -- I thought James Taylor first as well, but not in 1964.

And Natural Woman, written by Carole King, was not sung by her until Tapestry in 1960-eleven.

Yeah, and I always thought Son of a Preacher Man was an Aretha song, but turns out Dusty Springfield did it first. At any rate, this quiz is looking for the first singer, not the most famous.

Great quiz - I got them all, but it's worth pointing out that Otis Redding had a hit with "My Girl" (in the UK at least) in the same year that The Temptations did.
