Could you accept synagog as spelling for synagogue? I was under the impression that synagog is an accepted spelling for synagogue and wikipedia agrees.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synagogue

"A synagogue (from Koine Greek: συναγωγή transliterated synagogē, meaning "assembly"), sometimes spelt synagog, is a Jewish or Samaritan house of prayer"

Maybe also think about accepting hypodermic needle for syringe? I know the hypodermic needle is attached to a syringe upon injection, but both could technically be considered devices.

Not a single word though, which is usually required for these quizzes. Though it doesnt implicitly state so in the descriptions this time

I've heard "hypodermic" by itself used as a noun meaning "hypodermic needle," and Merriam-Webster has a definition as such.

I got confused on the wording. It should say "giving", instead of "making". I was thinking along the lines of those 3D printers. Injection molding.

Maybe "tornado" or "twister" would be a better clue for cyclone? Technically typhoons and hurricanes are "tropical cyclones."
+2

A tornado occurs on land, whereas hurricanes and such occur over tropical waters. A hurricane happens over the Atlantic Ocean, a cyclone happens over the Pacific Ocean, and a typhoon happens over the Indian Ocean. They are all names for the same type of storm, but a tornado or twister is a completely different phenomenon.

A few things - hurricanes occur over the Atlantic Ocean, yes, but typhoons occur over the Pacific Ocean, not Indian. Cyclones, on the other hand, can occur anywhere. A cyclone in the Atlantic might become a hurricane if it becomes strong enough, and a cyclone in the pacific might become a typhoon.

But yeah, tornadoes are completely unrelated.

My grandparents always called a tornado a cyclone - they were born in the 1890s and I don't hear it used much these days for tornado, but the Merriam-Webster dictionary says, "Definition of cyclone for Students. 1 : a storm or system of winds that rotates about a center of low atmospheric pressure and that moves forward at a speed of 20 to 30 miles (30 to 50 kilometers) an hour and often brings heavy rain. 2 : tornado." I also read a "tall tale" as a child about Pecos Bill and the Cyclone and Bill lassoed and rode a tornado in the story. Tornado and cyclone were once used interchangeably.

Could I get some clarification as to why Monarchy isn't a valid answer to the ruling family question please and thank you
+1
Level 49
Jun 6, 2023
The quiz asks for the word whch refers to a SERIES of rulers from the same family. A monarchy only applies to a monarchical country (eg) the Windsors.

However, even political parties (eg) the Indian National Congress, corporations (eg) Hyundai, or even democratic nations (eg) the Bushes, the Nehru-Gandhis, etc. can also be dynasties, thus being a more apt answer in this case.
