Great quiz - seems I've been waiting for it for years!
Just wondered if Finrod should be there - I think Gildor mentions he is from the house of Finrod. Also Daeron - does Gandalf mention that the writing on the doors of Moria are Daeron's runes?
Haven't got a copy of LOTR handy however found this on the internet: "These are Daeron's Runes, such as were used of old in Moria..." –Gandalf, The Fellowship of the Ring.
I'm not sure but I think they were on the doors of Moria 'speak friend and enter - I Narvi carved these runes - I think you have Narvi. Alternatively it may have been on Balin's tomb.
Actually I was surprised there were only 280 odd characters mentioned. I've always wondered how these quizzes are compiled - do you actually go through the book noting them down or is there a tool you use?
And I must yield again - Daeron IS mentioned at Balin’s tomb. I checked only the doors… However, by the orders of The Quizmaster there’s no chance to alter the answers any more.
Don’t know about the others, but I actually went the book through and made notes! After that I checked the English names, because my mothertongue is Finnish. It was a nice holiday activity and I enjoyed very much doing it. And the book itself is very dear and familiar to me, which made the task much easier than it sounds.
Of course, the main reason I created the quiz was the fact that the previous ”Lotr character” quizzes were either inaccurate or lame!
I mean Brego was only guessed by 57% of players, which is kinda sad considering his name is basically a give-away.
Also, great quiz! My LOTR is definitely slipping and I probably would have done much better on this quiz 5 years ago... but all the same it was a joy to play!
Great quiz, thanks for making it! I didn't do as well as I might have; after seeing the answers there were several I really should have gotten. It's been many years since I've read the books, though. Looking forward to trying the quiz again some time down the line.
Welp, you've caught me. You've got me hooked, addicted, obsessed. I've already got the five points, but I do not, cannot, will not rest until I finally know every single named character in the six books of Lord of the Rings. I would swear an oath, but that didn't turn out too well for a certain eight characters.
Absolutely love this quiz. It is my favourite one to do, and I have done it probably dozens of times now. Thought I better finally make a comment to say congrats on a great quiz. Doing the whole quiz refreshes my brain and wakes it up for study.
Cool Quiz!!!
More LOTR!!!
Potter taken to consideration…🤪

And gosh, you are right about Finrod. I’ll go and find some ash to pour on my hair….
Daeron isn’t mentioned in my (Finnish) translation of the actual story - in Appendix, of course.

(This is mentioned in the original instructions, which are later modified by the Quizmaster.)
