agreed. I always normally get off at Charing Cross for National Gallery/ trafalgar square. Or realistically if on the Bakerloo line then Piccadilly Circus is the best option
Hmm... opinion or fact? Looking at the map it seems clear that Charing Cross is quite a lot closer from the entrance to the National Gallery. If you take it from the back, who knows
Leicester Square is about 200m from the back of the National Gallery building at their nearest.
However, Charing Cross tube and the National Gallery both have entrances onto Trafalgar Square. It's about 100m between the two at their nearest.
I think the issue here is that Charing Cross is a merger of two fairly far apart tube stations (Trafalgar Square and Strand) and the northern line platforms (formerly Strand) and the NR station called Charing Cross are slightly further away from the National Gallery building than Leicester Square.
So if you ignore that the National Gallery's public entrance is on the south side of the building, and also ignore the Bakerloo line part of Charing Cross station, you can make it Leicester Square that's closer.
