I added a bunch of new type ins. Please comment if you have any more type-in suggestions. I'm sure there are more that could be added, as some of these languages are very obscure.
I know that Wikipedia has added more languages since this quiz was last updated (April 2024) but to prevent stats from resetting, I'll update the quiz data every 2 years -- next time in April 2026. I will continue to accept type-in suggestions, however, by updating this quiz periodically
"The particular bot writing the Cebuano edition is called 'Lsjbot' and was created by the Swedish physicist Sverker Johansson. His creation is responsible for over 24 of the edition’s 29.5 million edits and according to research done by Guilherme Morandini, another global administrator, has created 5,331,028 of the edition’s 5,378,570 articles, or 99.12 percent of its article creations."
Although this bot in particular bot didn't create all bot-generated articles, there are more than 1,600 Wikipedia bots that have AI-translated articles (Wilson).
Wilson, Kyle. “The World's Second Largest Wikipedia Is Written Almost Entirely by One Bot.” VICE, Kyle Wilson, 11 Feb. 2020, https://www.vice.com/en/article/4agamm/the-worlds-second-largest-wikipedia-is-written-almost-entirely-by-one-bot
also feel extremely dumb for missing the Baltics, Basque, and Latin while getting Sichuan Yi, Chichewa and Tahitian
Also Emilia-Romagnol without the n? Abkhaz for Abkhazian? Other than that the type-in game is strong.
Also can "belarussian" be a type-in for both belarusian answers instead of only one?
Great quiz!
they keep undoing my changes to remove english
Also, even though I guessed Ligurian, I forgot Italian...
Roma for Romani
Kichwa for Quechua (though I believe this refers to specific varieties, I think it is also the general name for the language family in Ecuador)
Diné for Navajo (I know this quiz uses English names, but I've heard the language referred to by this name in English)
Aztec for Nahuatl (maybe also Mexicano, according to the Wikipedia page)
Not sure why Haitian or Creole is accepted for Hatian Creole but you have to type in the entirety of Guyanese Creole; maybe just accept Guyanese.
My biggest miss was "Mon", which is surely rated so high from people getting it by accident on their way to "Mongolian" or something similar.
My biggest get was "Piedmontese".
I've spent a few minutes wondering which popular language I missed because of this
Judging by 95% guessing the Buriat and only 57% guessing the actual Russian, I'm not the only one
Newar should be accepted for Newari, especially since it's considered more correct than Newari.
Avar should be accepted for Avaric, I've never even seen it called Avaric until now.
Kapampangan should be accepted for Pampanga, as Pampanga is not, in fact, the name of the language, but the province in which it's spoken. Pampangan would be the name.
Sakha should work for Yakut. This bothered me the least, it's just an alternative name, but still, it should be accepted.
