Thanks, that was jolly fun! It also led to a rueful feeling. I'd seen three species of mergansers by 1978, amounting to half of the species in the family. Here it is over forty years later, and I have still seen exactly three species of merganser, having dipped repeatedly on two of the others, and never having made it to the rapidly disappearing habitat of the Brazilian species, which might well be extinct before I can get down there.
