1.There is a high chance (53%) that climate change will cause humans to become extinct by 2050
Fact
✓
Misconception
✓
The chances are extremely unlikely, though, it is estimated that 16% of all species will become extinct by that time
2.The Amazon rainforest produces 20% of the world's oxygen
Fact
✓
Misconception
✓
Amazon plants consume 60% of oxygen they produce by respiration and microbes consume the other 40%, so the net contribution of Amazon ecosystem to the world is effectively zero
3.Sea levels could rise up by a metre by 2100
Fact
✓
Misconception
✓
4.The current global average temperature is the warmest it has been in the last 100,000 years
Fact
✓
Misconception
✓
5.Climate change begun due to the Industrial Revolution
Fact
✓
Misconception
✓
Climate has changed over the course of history, however, the rapid warming now is not a natural occurence
6.Nuclear energy has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by over 60 gigatonnes
Fact
✓
Misconception
✓
7.Some animals are adapting to climate change due to natural selection
Fact
✓
Misconception
✓
Though, unfortunately, others cannot adapt too quickly to the rapid change and there are risks of extinction
8.Developing countries are responsible for 79% of carbon emissions since 1850
Fact
✓
Misconception
✓
In fact, it's the opposite
9.The collective exhalation of carbon dioxide from many people contribute significantly to global warming
Fact
✓
Misconception
✓
10.Climate models are unreliable and too sensitive to carbon dioxide
Fact
✓
Misconception
✓
11.China, the United States and India are contributing to around 44% of the global greenhouse emissions
Fact
✓
Misconception
✓
12.Climate change indirectly causes the death of millions of people in developing nations
Fact
✓
Misconception
✓
Poor living conditions and diseases are the major cause of many deaths, rather than climate change. However, over time, the effect of climate change may cause problems in these countries
13.Atmospheric water vapour is trapping heat, being also responsible for global warming
Fact
✓
Misconception
✓
Water vapor is increasing in the atmosphere in response to rising CO2 concentrations
14.Climate change currently affects at least over 10,000 species on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species
Fact
✓
Misconception
✓
15.The rate of sea-level rise has doubled since 1990
I do agree that nuclear is a great way of generating low-carbon electricity, however, I do not understand the question about nuclear energy. Carbon dioxide emissions reductions compared to what (time prior to use of nuclear in electricity generation? scenario in which the electricity would be generated by the remaining mix of coal/gas/hydro/solar/wind?)? At which level (USA? Worldwide?)? between which dates? Thank you for the precisions you could give!
