Can you name the 50 best selling musical acts of all time in the UK, according to the Official Chart Company's list from June 2012? (A clue is given in the form of a one-word song title - not necessarily their biggest hit!)
It's a sobering list for anyone who things Britain has any taste in music eh? Justin Bieber at no. 1 and Kate Bush, Adele etc. etc. nowhere to be seen.
And I'd never even heard of Imagine Dragons! Are they very niche or something?
The list is skewed a bit by the large volume of cheap downloads that were being bought during the last few years upto 2012. Hence some older artists with platinum singles from 7" singles days appear lower than newer acts.
I thought Weird Al already told everyone to stop downloading songs. Or…wait, he only told them not to download the specific song he was singing in when he…my brain hurts.
@HelenH : some suggestions. 1) say it's a list of singles sales only, 2) a few times you've clues groups with lead singer solo hits and vice versa (eg "Jet", "Cecilia") please accept either answer as correct, 3) should also accept a few more first name only answers for acts often known that way (eg Cliff and Kylie) ... especially as 50 answers in 4mins means time is tight just to type everything!
