FIFA, the world's governing body of association football, is made up of 6 continental confederations (North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania). Every national association must be a member of one of these continental confederations. Interestingly, there are 12 national associations members representing countries whose territory (>50%) is geographically located outside the continental football confederation to which they belong.
*One of these national associations corresponds to a subnational entity, not a sovereign country.
