Wild to see Trout outside the top ten. It's not unreasonable, but I'd still prefer him on my team over J-Rod or Soto (at least for now), and although Harper is probably as good a hitter, his value is diminished as a first baseman. Ohtani's value also goes down because he can't pitch this year. Realistically, I still think Trout is a top-five player in the league, at least for 2024. I think only Acuna and Betts are obviously better. Freeman is probably a better hitter at this point, but, as with Harper, playing first base makes him less valuable in my eyes. Alvarez is only a part-time fielder. Of course, this list is from MLB.com., so it's going to be biased toward guys they want to promote, all of whom are at the top. They've never had much interest in making Trout their guy.
For me, he is way too injury prone. Since the COVID year, he just isn't playing enough for me to put him above any of the ones that you mention. To be a top player, you have to consistently play and play well, and Mike Trout is missing that first part. I get putting him above because he played center field, but last year he played 82 games, Ohtani played 135 with pitching, Freeman played 161, and Harper played 126. Julio Rodriguez played in 155 and Juan Soto played in all 162, who you said you would want less than Trout. Sure, Trout executes when he is on the field, but he played in 40 less games than every single other person on the list above him, 60 less than most, with the exception of Gerrit Cole for obvious reasons.
