HinesBrothers made a similar quiz on the same day. Both quizzes are excellent. I featured this one because JPin8497 has fewer features. I did borrow some of the questions from HinesBrothers and also added a few of my own.

Vatican City famously has the world's lowest birth rate.

The question doesn't ask for birth rate though, does it?

Fertility rate = child / woman. There are married women in the Vatican. They probably don't use birth control.

According to Wikipedia, "women account for approximately 5.5% of the citizenry of Vatican City", and pregnant women would be an even smaller percentage. I assume some (if not all) of these hypothetical women in that situation would give birth outside of Vatican City proper, although I'll admit I don't know enough about how birth rates are calculated to know if that would afect the count. In any case, I'd say Jerry is on to something. I wasn't sure if it would be included but I tried Vatican City for that question just in case.

@vermiciousknid. Fertility rate = children per woman, not children per person.

It's not my quiz, I realise, but if that's all "fertility rate" means then it seems a bit of an arbitrary ratio, like quoting the number of mobile phones per mile of railway line. All the others are sort of interesting facts, and I thought this was as well (as I thought it was the same as "birth rate") until I read the comments. Now I don't understand why fertility rate is even a thing, much less a thing it might be interesting to guess about.

Excellent quiz otherwise, of course :-)

Do miles of railway line, and only miles of railway line, make mobile phones? If so, (# mobile phones)/(# miles of railway line) would be a useful measure of the number of new mobile phones in relation to number of phone-makers. Fertility rate is useful because the number of women limits the number of children a country can have; the number of men does not, and, in cases with abnormal gender distributions (like the Vatican), the total population would obscure what's driving the number of births.

I totally fluked the country ending in Y. I hadn't got a European country with a capital beginning with A, so I wanted to go back to it, but forgot to move the yellow box. BINK!

Turkey is a European country with a capital that is before Berlin in the alphabet, but Ankara is actually in Asia. Probably should be an acceptable answer, seeing as it says "European country" and not "European city". Still, facepalm at not thinking of Amsterdam.

Turkey just asked the US State Dept to change its official spelling to Turkiye, so it no longer ends in a Y. I'm not sure what the source is for the spelling of the names of countries, but just thought I'd bring this to peoples' attention in case the quiz needs to be revised now.
