Nice quiz, thanks! I wasted a lot of time trying to go through it alphabetically at first - on "E" for example I was thinking of loads of island countries but not typing them in because they didn't begin with "E"! D'oh
Yeah, more people got Grenada or Kiribati than one of the most universally known countries in the world, it’s crazy how much your mind plays tricks like that on you, when is says islands country, you automatically think trivially and don’t go through the obvious answers like you otherwise would
So then would Afro-Eurasia be the largest island in the world? And then wouldn't that make ALL countries "island countries"? The fact is that there is no strict scientific definition of "continent," nor any strict scientific delineation between "continent" and "island." It's all left to convention, and those conventions are different in different countries. None is more "right" than the others.
Micronesia should be under 'm' for the same reason that Papua New Guinea is under 'p' rather than 'i' from their full name of Independent State of Papua New Guinea and also Marshall Islands is under 'm' rather than 'r' from their full name of Republic of Marshall Islands.
First of all, this quiz uses JetPunk standards, and JetPunk standard is F. S. Micronesia.
Now, as for why: I believe the reason why F. S. Micronesia is not just Micronesia on JetPunk is to differentiate it from the region Micronesia, just like how Macedonia is North Macedonia. There are no other Papua New Guineas or Marshall Islands.
In a quiz about naming countries, there are no other Micronesia's either. I get that the site standard isn't your choice, but it is an inconsistent standard.
I understand your point, but I imagine it's the same as calling the USA "America" or North Macedonia "Macedonia". Generally, countries are differentiated from regions.
Woah! You got a feature! Nice one! I think I wrote this before it was featured and missed all the bigger island nations because I got hung up micro nations and ignored the bigger countries entirely.
Ive always thought countries like haiti and east timor shouldnt be "island countries" since the whole island is not the country. Haiti shares hispaniola with the Dominican Republic and East timor shares timor with Indonesia but thats just me rambling lol. Great Quiz!
Whether this is correct or not, it is JetPunk standard and applies to this quiz.
