That's what always bugs me about this list. It seems completely reactionary and dependent on a few small factors, like who won the champions league and whatever international tournament took place. Dani Carvajal wasn't even on the list last year and now, somehow, he's 9th
Wasn’t meant to be a confronting or questioning comment, just an observation. I’m not a soccer fan by any means, just weird that the top 3 aren’t making any major headlines.
They did say that they're not a soccer fan, and as a soccer fan myself I get what they mean, they aren't grabbing the same genre-breaking attention as Messi and Ronaldo did. Idk if that's because of who the players are or change in media coverage
Well it's probably unlikely we'll ever get players as good as Messi and Ronaldo in the same generation again, so its fair to say that the standard has declined.
Haaland has been breaking Premier League records since 2022. He's got the coveted 'most goals in a season' record that Alan Shearer and Andy Cole held since 1993/95
Interesting list, I love football and follow it every week but I feel my non-premier league knowledge has fallen off a cliff in the last few years. Probably would've scored higher on a quiz on 2014 best players!
Some odds picks on here though, like what has Savinho done to justify being top 100? He's been average since La Liga finished in May. Walker has also been poor since the season ended. And why is James Rodriguez here?? He's literally had 15 appearances in the whole of 2024.
Savinho was brilliant for Girona last season, like Dovbyk and has played decently for City. Definitely not a guaranteed top 100 player but there are names on the list that deserve it less than him in my opinion
I think the word male in the quiz title is entirely superfluous. Despite an organised campaign of gaslighting I still recognise the professional women’s game for what it is. The best ladies in the world would be beaten by a decent U-15 boys team. There are many reasons for this.
It’s only when young girls start putting in the hours playing football in the quantity and to the level of the boys that this might change. But that is for them to decide, not a media rabidly pushing an inferior product for the perception of equality.
Lookman this high feels... iffy. A hat-trick against Leverkusen was stellar performance, but is it justifiable for 22nd? Seems too result-oriented, especially when Gyokeres and Guirassy were far more consistently lethal.
I only got 10/100 and I've only heard about maybe 1/4 of them all. Long gone are the days when I was the biggest football nerd in my school. I bet I would've scored around 80/100 in 2006 or something.
Disagree with some of these but when you bare in mind that this list is based on 2024 and 2024 alone not taking into account the rest of each players' careers then it's not too bad
Times are changing
