I'm pretty salty that the Leafs took John Tavares from us, but irrespective of that, I really love how the rest of Canada just dumps on them at every opportunity.
The leafs didn't take him from the islanders, he left the islanders and signed with the leafs because he wanted to play there. He was a big leafs fan as a kid and wants to be a part of them becoming good again.
Being a proper noun has nothing to do with it. No one goes out to rake the leafs. People just say "leafs" because they are used to saying it incorrectly.
theguy316 actually makes a good point. I never thought about it, but it's true. Senators didn't wear helmets like soldiers did. Maybe the occasional fishing hat or sideways Yankees cap, but not a helmet.
Great quiz! Got it with 1:59 left. I can tell that this quiz was not made by somebody from Canada or any other major hockey country though:) Ice hockey gives it away, it is just hockey where I live.
if you consider the canadiens stanley cup wins-losses it is 24-82. they also have not won since 1993... and of the 24 wins, 13 of them were when the NHL had 10 or less teams
Also LETS GO CAPS!!! 3-1 in round 1!!! (if we lose this will suck)
The logo for the Anaheim Ducks looks like something that Batman would throw at the Joker and the team in Florida should be renamed the Burmese Pythons. Their new team logo should include a 10 foot long Burmese python swallowing the Florida Panther from the old logo.
The Islanders won their tenth in a row tonight. I just want to leave this comment here so I can remember happier times after they invariably go in the tank this spring.
Losing the Conference Finals/Semifinals to the eventual Stanley Cup champions in back-to-back years ain't chopped liver. And this year, they were a Game Seven 1-0 road loss away from reaching the Finals. There are a lot of clubs that would love the opportunity to "fail" like that.
Can you please accept "Habs" for the Montreal Canadiens? It's a pretty common nickname, derived from Les Habitants (which is what a Canadien is). Thanks :)
It's so obvious which of these logos were designed in the 1930s-1980s.. and which were after that.. mostly the 2000s on. Odd how completely different and immediately recognizable the styles are. Mostly moving away from simple designs and geometry, straight lines, right angles, perfect circles, 2-3 bold distinct usually primary colors... for logos that aren't and don't have any of those things.
I know I'm late to the party but the Ducks logo went from really bad to god awful. I understand wanting to get away from the Disney related logo with the sale of the team but there is nothing that remotely evokes the home team or the mascot. I can see it's a ridiculous D shape but it looks more like some 10 year olds idea for the next stealth aircraft. You'd be hard pressed to find a worse one in any sport at any level.
Disagree that the original ducks logo was really bad, but the new one is definitely awful, easily one of the worst in the league. Provides nothing to the team.
I'm a basketball fan, couldn't think of the Caps. Knew it was the Washington team, but I kept thinking Wizards. Eventually got it with 10 seconds left.
It's only temporary: "The team will play its inaugural season in 2024–25 with a temporary name and colors, while a full identity is developed in time for 2025–26."

With the most stanley cups! (24)

The logo itself stands for club de hockey
They now use the (somewhat) cross-shaped logo displaying KINGS rather than LA.
Hope this helps.
"Hockey team", incidentally, doesn't work.
