They truly call it that in the US? I thought the earlier comments were making a joke.

Interesting, I have never heard it called that before while I know quite a few Americanisms. Odd that I have never come across it before. I could reason that, outside of this website, I don't really come across geographic subjects. But I do know about the sea of Japan/East(korean) sea thing and South China sea
