Both Missouri and Kentucky were home to rival governments, and the Confederacy granted statehood to the two. Thus, the map is accurate from a Confederate perspective.
Fantastic quiz, very clever and original! Thank you for making it!! 9/12. I easily recognized the area of northwestern South America but had no idea what it had been called. West Germany looked so much like an island to me that I never considered anything else. And North Vietnam totally stumped me.
The problem with FRG is that it still exists. Perhaps we can settle it that way: "West Germany" as a cultural concept ceased to exist, but not the political entity that is the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG).
Technically neither West Germany nor North Vietnam are "former countries": they simply annexed other parts of territory and became Germany and Vietnam.
Ah, and the shape of west germany is without west Berlin.
A part from those things great quiz, I would like to see another one.
I echo the comments about the Austro-Hungarian or Austrian Hungarian Empire (or even Habsburg Empire).
There was never a country called either East Germany or West Germany: they were the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG or BRD) and the German Democratic Republic (GDR or DDR).
Good God, you love to type in a lot of extra letters in your quiz, huh? Don't forget there's no such nation as U.K., it's The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. You must moderate the German language quizzes here because I have to type in Vereinigtes Königreich every time instead of UK or VK.
Great quiz - especially North Vietnam, which is completely obvious and completely impossible. I knew exactly what Gran Colombia was, but could not find the name - was it also once (further back in history) called New Grenada?
Anyone else had this problem on mobile? Instead of picture on top and the corresponding yellow box underneath it, the quiz jumped in a way that yellow box is on the top of the screen ao I hqd to scroll uo after eqch question.
Texas didn't have those borders until 1850, well after it stopped being an independent country. The Republic of Texas' de facto territory was just the eastern and central parts of the modern state, and it also claimed the entire territory of the modern state plus large parts of neighbouring states.

West Germany doesn't include parts of berlin
And Austria-Hungary used to own part of China o that was probably a bad choice
