If a country hasn't been occupied, then the country they became independent from is the answer. Also includes countries that were annexed. The occupation must be after the countries independence or self-government.
Baxtergrad is correct....during WW2, the UK took over Iceland to prevent it from being used by Germany as Uboat base. Even before the US joined the war, they took over the occupation so the British could focus on home defense. Canada was also there helping both. It was a rather benign occupation.
I researched it and it said that the UK occupied Iceland during WWII. But did you mean that the US took over that occupation so that UK could focus on home defence?
As an Andorran, I don't think "1512-Aragon" is a correct answer. I'm not sure what are you referring to, but Andorra became an independent country by 1278 and has not been invaded since (too small, poor and remote to be worth the effort).
As far as I know, the last time a foreign army invaded Andorra belonged to the count of Foix, and was shortly before that.
According to Wikipedia, Andorra was annexed to Aragon in 1512. If we have the text "occupied/annexed" in the bullet point at the top, that should be fine.
I'm not sure if you can say a country was "occupied" by it's predecessor, when it came to existence when the predecessor splitted up (Yugoslavia, Czekoslovakia)
Also the UK was occupied by Ireland/Great Britain?
You could as well say, germany was occupied by germany in 1990? Or by Eastern Germany in 1949?
Ok. I just meant that Great Britain and Ireland merged together to form the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. I can change that though soon.
How did Soviet Union occupy Poland? 🤔 They went through on their way on Berlin, but afterwards Poland was left in the hands of satellite Communist government, but Polish government nonetheless.
Slovakia was occupied by Soviet troops during 1945 towards the end of WW2 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slovakia_during_World_War_II). Your caveat says "if the country hasn't been occupied, then the country they became independent from is the answer". Soviet Union should therefore be the answer for Slovakia, not Czechoslovakia.
Oh wow, OK I see where you're coming from now. That way of looking at this quiz does not seem intuitive to me and probably needs to be made a lot more obvious. You should put a caveat at the top to make it clear that you are only looking for occupation "since independence or self-government".
Finland gained independence 6.12.1917. There was civil war 1918, in which Germany supported Finnish White troops and Russia supported the Red troops, but the country was not occupied.

Edit: I have changed the answer for Iceland now.

Also Czechoslovakia hardly occupied Slovakia 🙄
