Need to remember for most of F1's history that was either the USSR or other members of the Warsaw Pact, none of whom would of been super keen on having the pro-western racing series

I think the San Marino Grand Prix (1981-2006) was named as such because Italy already had a Grand Prix at Monza. But the San Marino GP was held at Imola which, although near San Marino, is really in Italy.
