Geography of The British Isles

Can you name these random geographic features of the British Isles?
A big thank you and shoutout to Users sammyboi, baptistegorce, izra and MiaTheGoose for helping me create this quiz.
Any geographic feature that is in red falls under a miscellaneous category, which means they can be possibly anything (ie: a specific region, a desert, or maybe even a forest).
Beware, this quiz might have some less known answers.
Here are a couple hints that might help you throughout the quiz: 1) If there are many islands grouped together, they are part of an island chain, so make sure to name the island group name (ie: The Galapagos, The Balearic Islands). There are also a couple individual islands on this quiz too, so be weary of that as well. 2) There are numerous small sized answers on this quiz, so zoom in to see them (there are arrows to guide you to the right place). 3) There are also a couple duplicated answers on this quiz (ie: NYC, New York), so try to be specific whenever and wherever possible.

It is very likely this quiz has tons of mistakes, so if you find any, let me know :)

A good quiz. A few suggestions: Allow some leniency, e.g. Dover Strait or Strait of Dover, Hebrides or Hebridean Sea, Hull, without the Kingston, etc. Please correct the position of Maidstone - your dot is closer to Canterbury. Or, better still, change the answer to Canterbury which is more well-known. You have chosen several fairly obscure places whilst omitting some more obvious ones - e.g. You have Llanfairpwyllgwngyllgogorychwrndrobwllllantisiliogogogoch but no Birmingham. Boston but no Lincoln.

I understand your point, but I made this quiz obscure on purpose. There is a reason why I put in smaller cities while omitting the larger ones, and thats simply because I was trying to make the quiz a hard one.

Good quiz. I’ve only ever known the ‘forth firth’ as the Firth of Forth so perhaps change the answer as I’ve googled and I am correct but yet wasn’t accepted as an answer 🤷‍♀️

Thanks. Okay, I will except firth of forth.

Edit: Firth of Forth is now accepted :)

Great quiz! Learned some new things from it :D

Nice to see the inclusion of some more obscure features (including the Brechfa Forest, which is local to me)

The Republic of Ireland is a sovereign nation populated by Irish people, not British people. Irish people are not British. This is not a political statement but an irrefutable fact. Ireland and its people are not part of the so called British Isles due to the fact, as already stated, that Irish people are not British. This quiz is factually wrong and politically insensitive to put it politely.

I have no idea what you’re on about because every source I’ve used…Northern Ireland is part of the uk and ireland is part of the British isles.

So if you’re gonna take time to criticize a quiz, at least make the criticism factual.

What an immensely ignorant comment. Perhaps you might educate yourself before inventing such quizzes in the future. The Republic of Ireland (and in reality the island of Ireland) is not part of the made up British Isles. Fact. This is not a political statement. Ask yourself why after years of pressure the Lions rugby team was changed to British and Irish lions representing the British Isles and Ireland. Honestly, why don’t you claim France while you are at it.

He isn't claiming that the Republic of Ireland is part of Britain, just that it is merely part of the geographical (not political) area of the British Isles. You wouldn't say that the UK is part of the European Union, yet it is still part of the geographical region of Europe.

First, the terms British Isles is not recognised by people in the Republic. It is a geographical term that is used by the British. Irish people do not consider Ireland as part of the British Isles politically or geographically. Second, the quiz asks people do they consider themselves a true Brit and by strong implication it means Ireland and all things therein is British. We all know it is not.

Again moonshot, educate yourself. Ireland is not politically or geographically part of the British Isles. Claim it as you will and label my comments as you will but your quiz is - at its best - misleading. Good luck with your Kashmir quiz.

I agree with your second point and that the description is poorly worded, however the term British Isles is used generally throughout the world and even though the Irish do disagree with it (with some justification), I don't think that it is a good reason to change the quiz title as it isn't the most commonly used term.

I just KNEW your response to CityMad's initial comment was going to produce one of these long differences of opinion :-) Saying the Republic is part of the British Isles on Jetpunk is like saying Canada is part of America (well, it is, sort of) or even that Cyprus is in Europe.......

do yall know what the british isles means? british isles is different from great britain, or the united kingdom, british isles is the collection of islands that are around great britain. to quote merriam webster: "island group of western Europe comprising Great Britain, Ireland, and adjacent islands"

yall are just factually wrong lmao

This is a real work of art!!! Very impressive. That said, I have to cavil a bit (sorry):

+ I think you have Portland and Portsea mixed up (the island marked in the quiz is Portland, but Portsea is the one which Portsmouth is on)

+ The Isle of Arran seems to be marked as "South Ayrshire"..? It's actually part of North Ayrshire, although it would be better just to have its own name imho

+ "Western Isles" should work for the Outer Hebrides

+ Thurso is an answer but doesn't actually seem to be marked on the map? I don't know if that might also be true for some other answers

+ The Tamar is too far west - it's actually the eastern border of Cornwall, which I realise makes it hard to represent on your map. I did get it so perhaps it's fine as it is

+ There's no "mount" in Helvellyn, though I realise just typing Helvellyn works, which means now I really AM nit-picking

I hope that didn't sound TOO negative. Generally it's a tour de force and I'm nominating it

Alright, I think all of those should be fixed.

On account for Thurso, however, it worked fine for me, so maybe it was just a glitch?

Thurso is referring to the river, not the town

The river boyne is in the wrong location it flows through county louth which is to the north of Dublin. The river you have on the map that flows through Dublin is called the river liffey.

You seem to have flooded a large part of the Midlands ... reservoir in question is nowhere near that big! :-D Also calling the Blarney Stone' a "geographic feature" is a huge stretch for what is effectively a brick in a castle wall!

The position of Stirling on the map is ridiculously inaccurate. Can only guess at the scale, but probably about 50 miles north west of where it should be. River Tay is marked on the map but not accepted as an answer. South Ayrshire is accepted as an answer but the corresponding county doesn't change colour.

Nice quiz, but could you accept 'Lough Neagh' instead of just 'Neagh?' Also, Derry ought to be much more to the west beside the Foyle. I thought you were looking for Coleraine!

Most enjoyable quiz, despite some of the previous comments :)

Got all England and most of Scotland and Wales but realised my knowledge of Ireland is woeful when it comes to the less well known places.

Yes - there are some obscure answers, but that's how we learn about places.

Why can't I nominate?

Oh and you can't nominate bc there is more then 100 answers.
