Wasn't Columbus Italian? Didn't even think you meant him, I thought you were asking for the other one who possibly found Canada before Columbus found the West Indies. But he was Portuguese, I think. And the Vikings were of course before him.

Thanks for letting me know, I did mean Columbus in that question but once I fix the mistake, it should make more sense.
