It looks to me like Moldova is about 50 kilometers closer than Monaco.

I don't understand how this could be true, given that Moldova's nearly on the other side of Europe?? Google confirms Monaco is (much) closer.

It is the only correct name. Holland is like a (bad) nickname that stuck. It is like calling the entire usa texas. Or saying that the correct and official name for the inhabitants of the usa is yanks.
