it is not indeed, but I think we also used to learn at school north south and central america separately (though I dont believe we were ever told central america was its own continent).
It depends from where you are, for example from mexico to argentina people think central america is a different thing from north and south america, some do think central america is part of north, but some even think the caribbean is a different continent
They should also add Fi-Wi, fihefurydhfjehsdyukji, FIjI, 800-588-2300FIJITODAY, IJIF, Fine Jill, Fiddles jiggle, Fyjy, and any other word that somehow represents Fiji.
I'm probably annoying you with my series already: http://www.jetpunk.com/user-quizzes/28534/most-guessed-country-by-continent-on-five-most-guessed-countries-by-continent-quiz
I was about to correct you and say that it is spelled "Columbia" only to google it and find out that the opposite is true! Columbia is the incorrect but widely used spelling of the South American country in the United States. Who knew?
I've never heard that. "Columbia" was the general term used in the U.S. for the new lands opened up to European settlement by Columbus's voyage. So, for example, the song "Hail, Columbia" was a very popular U.S. patriotic song, and kind of an unofficial anthem for the country for over a hundred years.
qcumber, the name of the country is definitely colOmbia anything else is just people spelling it wrong. There are places in the US that áre called columbia which might confuse some people. But that does not change the correct name or spelling of the country colombia.
@ala02 if they use colombia they are mistaken, because in american english it is still colombia, no country by the name of columbia exists.
Germany is not as well known as the other nations on the list because it doesn't have much influence cultural influence and it is mostly unknown outside the west
Interesting point, it might be part of it, I think for most languages Iran remains Iran and Iraq is about 50/50 spelled Iraq or Irak. (With latin alphabet as script).
That is only for the veterans that take the countries of the world quiz and try to be as fast as they can. Most probably wont do that the first time they take the quiz and only the stats for the first time a quiz is taken are recorded.
Since this quiz is not about population but geography alone then Russia should be added to Asia, since the vast majority of Russian territory is in Asia
I think it may be at number 6. Russia is obvious because of its size and status as world power, and numbers 2-5 because of their tourism value. What surprises me though is that the two most popular European tourist destinations come last on this list. I'd have expected Italy to be much lower.
Not super surprising. Niger is at the end. People probably wanted to type in "Nigeria" and "Niger" came up first, then they typed in "Nigeria" again, which probably made it 6th on the list.
Colombia has always been Colombia.
@ala02 if they use colombia they are mistaken, because in american english it is still colombia, no country by the name of columbia exists.
