Nice quiz, but I have two corrections: You have to write Antigua to guess Armenia, and Timor-Leste is in Portuguese, and all the quizzes are in English, so the correct name should be East Timor.
Have to agree with Jerry928. Iran has been an independent country for much much longer than since 1979. It has gone through regime changes but that doesn't mean that it has been under the control of another country. Systems of government can and do change within a country.
Nonsense. Persia was renamed Iran in 1935. Exactly whom did they gain independence from in 1979? It was an internal civil war that deposed the Shah and set up the Islamic Republic. If there's a revolution in Norway tomorrow to depose Harald V, does Norway cease to exist? The Ivory Coast gained independence from France in 1960; Israel was created by UN fiat in 1948.
Going by the Countries of the World quiz on this site, East Timor and Micronesia are the accepted names for those countries. It's confusing to have some quizzes accept one name and others require others.
Notice the date made - April 9, 2015. I had only been on JetPunk for about a month, so I wasn't truly aware of the actual names (I'd never heard of such countries as East Timor, prior to!). After a couple days short of one year on here, it's definitely fixed. Honestly, I do feel a tad stupid for doing that! Anyway thanks, ander.
Quizer6794: Don't berate yourself. Timor L'este, Cote d'Ivoire and Cabo Verde are the correct names for the countries. It's amazing that the very same people who have an issue with those names have no trouble with Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Mozambique, Benin, etc., etc., etc.
Montenegro exists since 1042, and it is called Montenegro since 15th century, also it gained independence from Ottoman empire in 1878, so it existed a lot earlier.
I'm just wondering, For answers such as A, L and T... Wouldn't Armenia AND Azerbaijan, Latvia AND Lithuania, Turkmenistan AND Tajikistan all be applicable as they are all dissolved USSR states? Or did they break off one by one and those you've listed are the latest ones? I don't know I just tried each of the incorrect three first haha.
The formation of the Kingdom of Hungary in 1000 A.D by Stephen I. Honduras became a state of the Federal Republic of Central America, braking free from from Spain, in 1821, then got full independence from Central America in 1838. Haiti's birth of its current form of government was back in 1804.
There is an oxymoron here. If Honduras is the youngest country starting with 'H', then why is Montenegro the youngest country starting with 'M'? Montenegro existed long time ago just like Hungary and others.
Hope you can fix those because is a good quiz.
Good luck!
Hungary was founded in 1920, and in 1989 the Third Republic was declared.
And also Haiti is newer than Honduras
