yea T was tough, had a hard time with B aswell though, belarusian. bulgarian, burmese, basque, breton... And L and M (got l though, but missed zulu... I ended up with all but; b,m,o,q,t,x,y,z I should ve gotten b, m and z... )
Interesting quiz. From those I've missed, I've never heard of T and O. It's weird to see languages with almost as many speakers as Germany's population (for T) which I didn't even know existed.
Is there a more recent citation than Wikipedia's that Turkish has 84m L1 speakers? It says the number is from 2006. Since Turkiye's population is growing, seems likely that it would be higher than 84m today. Wikipedia says that in 2011 Telugu was 83m.
Wikipedia also says that Oromo has 45.5m native speakers.
Farsi is the current endonym, Persian is the exonym.
Because this is an English quiz we would use the latter. Though Farsi is used interchangeably with Persian by so many people that I think it would be reasonable to have it as a type in for quizzes (but only for ones that aren't first-letter specific like this one)
Very cool quiz. Just an idea for anybody looking for a quiz idea, but I think the same quiz, but with the top 3 languages for each letter would also be good.
Concerning french, the difference between the sources used for the quizz and the Organization of International Francophonie is so weird: around 80 vs 220 millions native french speaker!
I'm curious to know the method of the two calculations...
Not me going "am I misspelling Xhosa? Xosa? Xohsa?" and then it wasn't Xhosa at all. Also, Odia/Oriya has 35 million L1 speakers but Oromo has 45.5 million L1 speakers.
It always seems the French number is low, thinking of all the French speakers in Africa. But I'm assuming many of them may be secondary speakers and not native speakers, as per the quiz notes.
*sees telugu is there*
*happy telugu noises*
Great quiz, nominated!
Did I miss Arabic? No.
Did I miss Spanish? No.
I. Just. Missed. English.
