10 minutes for this quiz seems like a bit much especially considering the "All Major North American Pro Sports Teams" quiz is 12 minutes an you have to name all of them.
Yeah I agree. I had over 5 minutes left even though I didn't know raleigh and salt lake city. I just skipped them because I knew I had no clue. Must be fairly new. All he rest were just pretty much just as fast as you can type. Enjoyed the quiz.
By that logic, the Canadian Football League and La Liga MX (Mexico's top flight soccer league) should be included too. According to Wikipedia, the CFL has a slightly higher average attendance than Major League Soccer and is neck-and-neck with La Liga MX.
I wasn't shocked to learn that the MLS has higher attendance than the NHL, but was definitely surprised that it outpaced the NBA. That makes it #3 in the US for attendance.
Attendance is only one measurement though. There are other important metrics like television viewership that offer a more complete/macro picture of the professional sports biome. I'm not ready to go down that rabbit hole, but I'd venture to guess that substantially reorders things.
Just look at the money. If you compare the sports by revenue, MLS is not even close to the big four. Soccer fans insist on pushing this fiction that MLS is eclipsing the NHL or even the NBA. I have nothing against soccer, but its proponents have been insisting for 25 years that it's about to become a major presence in the US and it's just not happening. It is not in league with the four major sports.
I agree, CFL and Liga MX could be included. That WOULD be a fun quiz. But you COULD include MLS and just rename the quiz slightly to USA based leagues?
Why?
Martay, if attendance IS included, MLS is higher than both NBA and NHL, so...
And even if we include the viewership metric, it has also passed NHL even in THAT regard.
I could get the CFL teams fairly easily since I'm Canadian, but I'd have no hope at all of getting a single Mexican league answer, and I suspect many are in the same boat.
Except that MLS only has 34 games in a season, so it makes sense for it to have high attendance since fans only need to make it to 17 games in their home market (compared to the… 80?… mlb home games in a season!). The only way to realistically look at popularity, then, is revenue. That takes into account all types of viewership and how much people will pay for tickets, which shows how much people actually want to watch it.
Hornets and Panthers also play in Raleigh. Also please accept "Preds" for Nashville Predators (quiz accepts many other such nicknames; Canes, O's, Jags, etc.)
But this is a good quiz otherwise!
