I've been on this site since ~2015 so it's great to finally get a quiz featured. This one is one of my oldest and I created it in 2015. Now I need to improve my score on my own quiz, which I notice I only have 4 out of 5 points on!
It doesn't count as a unique entry for this quiz because what is now Bangladesh was part of Pakistan at the time of Pakistan's independence - it is technically covered by the inclusion of Pakistan in this quiz.
who are you talking to and why do you think this makes sense? "Mandatory Palestine and Transjordan" wasn't a country it was a territory governed by the UK - which had been given the mandate of readying the territory for independence, one of many that had been carved out of the fallen Ottoman Empire, after World War 1. From this British-controlled territory the independent states of Israel and Jordan were declared. Pretty much the same way the dozens of other states were formed around the same time. Mysteriously, the formation of most of these states have never received as much myopic scrutiny or biased criticism as one particular one has.
Does Zimbabwe really count? Independence from the UK was declared in 1965 by the white minority government of Rhodesia. It was a de facto independent country until it became Zimbabwe in 1980.
Great quiz, but correct me if i'm wrong. Wasn't iceland also briefly occupied by the british from 1940 to 1944? idk maybe just think adding it. Still, very interesting subject matter.
I saw on a JetPunk Interesting Fact that "depending on how you look at it, Canada became independent from the UK in [four different completely separate years that I don't remember what it said], or never!"
If this is true, can you explain why these dates aren't all on the quiz?
XD
