For me I only know him from old clips where he still had his iconic mustache, so when I saw that picture I just though "no way, Michael Palin is Canadian?" and when that failed I had to leave it empty
I got Gretzky but I can easily see how he would be among the least guessed: Plenty of people who aren't into sports, but are very much into music and cinema, took the quiz.
I'm surprised he is so low because I thought he was so famous that even people who don't like sports would know him. I don't know anything about opera, but I'd recognize Pavarotti. Ditto poetry and Maya Angelou. Some people transcend their market and become famous to the average person. I thought the unquestioned best hockey player of all-time would fit the bill, but I guess hockey is much less popular than I thought.
I'd recognize him in hockey gear of course, but beyond that I associate him with wavy blond hair. The picture used for this quiz looks more like middle-age Eric Idle to me lol
How ironic that I easily got all the answers for the Famous french people quiz but missed several of these when I'm from Canada. But then, all the people in this quiz I never knew were Canadian.
You did better than me - I've only heard of 5 of them, three of whom I guessed. I was expecting Ben Johnson - though I suppose that he's infamous rather than famous.
can we stop with the witch-hunting of Bieber for crying out loud. i'm by no means a fan of him but it's ridiculous the amount of abuse he got when he was younger, and still does. please stop living in 2010, thanks.
He's pretty much the mascot/punching bag that represents everything people loathe about modern pop culture, so he inspires a lot of ill will in people. I agree it's probably overkill, but...well, he's awful. At least he has some discernible talent though, however marginal. The Kardashians, on the other hand...
Only got 15, sadly. That angle was weird for Gretzky and I couldn't place him, ditto Bryan Adams. Neil Young, though, is from about 15 minutes away from where I live now!
I wonder if this statistics reflect younger and non-Americans doing the quiz. 9 of the 10 figures that were most recognizable to me were the least recognizable on the list.
I think I'd enjoy watching Deadpool punch "The Beeb" right in the face, and then utter something witty like, "how ya like my recipe for Poutine baby? Next I'm Poutine my foot up your a$$!".
Hate me, neighbors to the north, but I'll say it - 90% of you live within 50 miles of the good ole US of A (we don't do metric down here - it's French). You guys look like us, and nearly sound like us. Like a really Fargo version of us, but whatever. You can leave Quebec behind, but really, what is the point of remaining subjects the Queen? Just either move down here already or just annex yourselves to the nearest state. OK, fire away.
your comment has dated well hasn't it mate?!!? I bet they are effing relieved they dismissed your daft (and thats being kind, hubristic guff might have been better) suggestion now ;)
Dwayne Johnson’s father was a Nova Scotian, his mother was Samoan. Which would appear to make him more Canadian than American and, of course, means that he DOES in fact have something to with Canada.
Didn't know that about his father, but The Rock never lived in Canada. He was born in the US and grew up there (with a stint in New Zealand), so your statement that he is "more Canadian than American" is flat-out wrong.
me and the wife play the "hey, it's that guy from that thing....I can't think of his name...oh, Richard Kind!" game and for the longest time neither of us could ever remember Dave Foley's name. It became such a thing that we eventually learned it just because it was always the example we'd use when we couldn't think of someone else's name. At this point Dave Foley comes to mind as fast John Goodman or Tom Hanks.
The others I knew, albeit one or two I couldn't remember or didn't recognise.
What does that even mean? There's an American "look"? Like how Muhammad Ali is similar to Pee Wee Herman?
And loudly not knowing the difference between the two countries is the most American thing ever. Isn't it ironic?
Just a suggestion, really
Being able to recognize someone is quite different from knowing who they are.
And I wouldn't care if they were Canadian or not. Just as long as I wasn't reminding the world who to blame for those two.
Bryan Adams and Alanis have already been mentioned: good calls both. Mike Myers? Norm McDonald?
A bunch of politicians who wouldn't be well known outside Australia, probably some youtubers, and that Olympic breakdancer, Raygun.
But please accept Graham for Drake and Tesfaye for The Weeknd, those are their real names after all.
