Oof. Canada's government data site (StatCan) is a mess. I would love to update this quiz but I can't find the data. I'm sure it's out there somewhere, but all I see is one that sorts arrivals into "US" and "Other".
U.S. government data is not great, but Canada is making us look amazing in comparison. I'll check back in a couple years to see if they got their act together.
Iceland is great, but cold. I was there in the summertime and it was 15○c. And I was told that it is the warmest it will ever get! But then again if I lived in Dominican Republic I'd love to travel to Iceland from time to time...:)
Playa del Anywhere for a cheap price. (No offence to Dominicans. It's just that the average Canadian tourist - no different than most tourists from the colder, richer world - don't care much about local anything. It's how many stars for the resort and what's the all-inclusive price. My guess would be that less than 2% of Canadians don't get picked up by resort shuttles from the airport.)
Venezuela is quite dangerous right now while tourism in Colombia has been growing steadily for the last several years but isn't quite as big yet as the others on this list. India has a lot to offer tourists but often is more expensive than the other countries on the list and continues to have big problems with rape and poor hygiene.
Most travelers to China are recent immigrants from China who are going back and visiting family. Non-ethnic Chinese are typically no more than 10-20% of any direct flight out of Vancouver or Toronto, max. And often much less.
Amazing that almost two thirds of Canadians visited the United States in a single year in 2015. It's a truly jaw-dropping figure that tells a lot about how close the countries are. You just don't see numbers like that with any other country, barring micronations and city-states.
I would've assumed Denmark/Greenland. Looking at google maps, I guess there isn't much to do, simply, or as a family, in Greenland, and it's probably expensive. And I'd guess there are similar landscapes in Canada itself to explore more cheaply & easily.
I also guessed Bahamas over DR. Or Peru, to se Machu Picchu.
Looks like plane tickets from Toronto:
$102 Miami, $116 Orlando
$286 Bermuda
$205 Cancun
$214 Los Angeles
$350 New Orleans
@$390-615 around Cuba ($612 Havana, $276 Grand Cayman island)

Google says that's @ $160 cheaper than usual.
