Another fantastic quiz! Got 8 this time. I thought that Munich was also part of East Germany for some reason, but looking at a complete map, it's not really East Germany, but North East Germany...
Thank you very much! I am only glad that East Germany didn't control any more territory and populace than it already did. It was an unfortunate era indeed.
I've been to one of the former Stasi Prisons in Erfurt a few weeks ago. Now it's a pretty cool museum where you can learn about life in the GDR, the peaceful revolution of 1989 and, of course, how people lived in the prison. It's stunning what abysmal conditions the people had to endure there.
One case that really shocked me was when teeanagers in neighboring Weimar were charged 6 months for graffiti that said "Macht aus dem Staat Gurkensalat" ("turn the state into cucumber salad").
When you think about it: people who did basically nothing by democratic standards where imprisoned and treated like sub-humans just over 30 years ago in the middle of Europe...
Thank you! I prefer to use the proper name for that time period, as the census data is from 1988 (Chemnitz is accepted for Karl-Marx-Stadt, while other name changes weren't so drastic, such as Halle/Saale to Halle (Saale)) This proved to be a minor nightmare when I was making my Austria-Hungary version, however! Thanks for catching the typo, it has been fixed :)
It would be fun to compare the population differences between the past and present on this quiz (assuming all the city borders are fairly comparable to today).
