Cool map concept. I think Indonesian Papua and West Papua are considered part of Asia, though? Marshall Islands also claims Wake Island, though that wouldn't make a difference to the overall answers.
Niue and Cook Islands have full control of their area but area in free association, but New Zealand cannot rule over these islands at all. Micronesia, Palau, and Marshall Islands are all in free assiocation too. The only difference between these two groups is recognition.
Nice and the Cook Islands have more differences than that, which is why I excluded them from the quiz. Cook Islanders and Niueans automatically are citizens of New Zealand, while Palau, Micronesia and Marshall Islands hav unique citizenships and their citizens are not Americans. They also have UN membership, unlike Cook Islands or Niue, which is why I would consider them to be fully sovereign.
It's all rather arbitrary but I believe the Galapagos are considered part of South America. Easter Island is much further from mainland Chile than the Galapagos from Ecuador it also has an indigenous Polynesian culture/connection.
Good quiz! It would have been great if the overseas territories/subdivisions of countries that are not in Oceania would have to be guessed separately rather than appear as their country name, e.g. French Polynesia (France), Hawaii (USA), etc.
Would like to see a similar concept with other continents/regions
I hate to be this guy, nonetheless, shouldn’t the Falkland Islands start invisible until the United Kingdom is guessed?
