Furthest Canadian Cities From the US Border (with map)
Close to 90% of all Canadians live within 200 kilometres from the US-Canada border. Out of the 100 largest population centres in Canada, can you name the 17 that lie outside the 200 km mark?
Not counting the border with Alaska
I've removed some cities which lie within a greater metropolitan region
I've discounted the Alaska-Canada border, as it doesn't play into the population distribution figures this quiz is based on. If I did, Prince George would be knocked down to a 200 km city.
Despite what it may seem, most of these cities aren't terribly remote/desolate. The Canadian Prairies extend up to around Edmonton, Lloydminster and Saskatoon, while the Maritimes are included mostly due to their being to the east of the US-Canada border.
I've updated the figures for the recently released data from the 2021 Canadian Census. In a shocking turn of events, Val-d'Or has lost too many people to remain in the top 100 population-centres. I plan on removing it soon, so feel free to bid your farewells to this unforgetable Quebecois mining town before it disappears from this quiz forever :(
I made the decision not to, for Alaska is as inhospotable in many ways as Northern Canada, and not many Canadians live along the Alaskan border. It doesn't fit into the purpose of this quiz like the continental US does.
