Wrong. Finland defended against Russian aggression, which doesn't make it a member of the axis. The Germans were continuously disappointed with the inaction of the Finnish army and their lack of interest in attacking, more obviously during the siege of Leningrad. China, as the victim of Japan's aggression and the place where the war really begun, was aligned with the Allies interests.
Finland was definitely fighting the Soviet Union and was technically at war with Britain, so it's safe to put it down as Axis even though they were not ideologically similar ( much like USA and Russia both on allies)
But Finland participated in the blockade of Leningrad, declared war on the USSR, seized territories, and acting very cruelly on them. And of course, it was an ally of Germany.
Finland sided with Germany when the Soviets invaded but didn't formally join the axis. When Germany in turn invaded the Soviets, Finland in turn just pushed the Soviets out of its territory but did not help in invading Russia. They may have helped with Leningrad because it was close by but didn't really do anything else. Then when the Soviets joined the Allies and the war turned in their favor, Finland promptly kicked the Germans out of their territory which other countries did as well. Finland at most temporarily sided with the Germans when it was convenient but was never a core member of the Axis especially by 1943 when Germany was in retreat.
I disagree with many answers. The USSR and Italy were original allies of Germany before they turned against them in 1941 and 1944 respectively. France also joined the axis, before the allies took it back. China was partially occupied by Japan. Finland is complicated.
It says in 1942 so USSR and Italy were allies and axis respectively. France was definitely allies. China was also allies. Finland didn't pick a side so neither
India wasn't a country at the time. They were forced to fight on the side of the Allies by the British, but the Leaders of the Indian Independence Movement, such as Subhash Chandra Bose, met with Hitler and Tojo to help fight guerilla warfare against the Allies.
They were not forced and feared Japanese invasion. Indeed, India raised the largest volunteer force in history of over 2m and more needs to be written about their epic saga.
Romania was actually an axis power at the start as they fought against the soviets during the invasion of the soviet union. However they switched sides when they saw the painting on the wall and became an allied power.
While initially so, "France" (as defined by its accepted government and accepted by the majority of its people and military) was Vichy France and not on the Allied side in 1942. Free France in London was a much smaller number and not recognised by most neutral nations. Churchill had to sink the French fleet as it failed to join the Allies or sail to a neutral port and the French colonial army resisted the Allied invasion (including Free French troops) in November 1942. While never formally joining the Axis side, Vichy was considered to have heavily collaborated providing resources and intelligence to them. Had Churchill not felt the need to counter Roosevelt post WW2, history might well have excluded them from either side.
