How confident are you that you haven't got the pictures of the seal and the sealion the wrong way around?

They're definitely right. Sea lions have external ears and can lift their bodies like the one pictured.

Sea lions also have those long, flat front flippers, while seals have shorter and stubbier front flippers that have claws at the end of their toes, which can be clearly seen in that picture of a harbor seal.
