In "Egypt" and (arguably) "Myanmar", the "y" acts as a vowel.

True. Egypt has two syllables, so Y is used as a vowel. But it only has one of the five standard vowels. I am not familiar with the Burmese pronunciation of Myanmar. I always thought it had only two syllables and that the Y was not a true vowel.
