wow I have never heard of that. When was it called that, been trying to find it for 15 minutes now, but all that I can find is that it is the former name and never when it was dropped, no matter how I phrase it.
Oh! I have an idea. How about showing also what people have answered? At the end, not just 59% got it right, but also that 12% answered A, 28% answered B and 1% answered C ? Just so you can see if others tripped up the same way you did.
Insane. I almost always look things up, but when it's something that feels super basic sometimes I don't. Kelp has been removed and replaced with grass.
So many of these, I worked out what the question was but couldn't work out which one it was - I worked out that the musicians one was looking for the one that wasn't a guitarist, but only recognised 2 names - 50/50 odds weren't on my side! And I guessed that they were looking for which island wasn't in Indonesia, but I got that one with a lucky guess! Fantastic quiz!
Loving this series, thank you! I suggest the followup info for Aleph be expanded since it is not only a Hebrew letter; it appears in other Semitic abjads (e.g. Arabic, Aramaic, and Ge'ez). You could call it a Semitic letter and be safe from the wrath of linguists ;)
Fun fact: the aleph glyph in Phoenician was inspired by an ox head, possibly ripped off from hieroglyphics. Through the highways and byways of history it became our letter 'A'. (Look at capital letter 'A' upside down and you will see the moo-face-and-horns appear!)
To people who recognize all the names in that question, it is very obvious that three people are from the same group and one isn't. You could probably come up with alternative "odd man out" scenarios for each of these questions, but the most obvious and generally recognized one should reign.
This one is damn sight harder than the previous one. I managed to get all but two, but a couple where guesses. That Japanese movies one might as well have been in Japanese lol.
Benign is also the only six letter word, which is how I got the answer. You may want to change that to make it less obvious (and force people to solve the question in the intended way).
really..? It is quite obvious... besides, kayak is the only word with a Y in it, so why didnt you choose that one? All the others have in common that they dont have y's
Did you base your answers for all the other question on the amount of letters they have? That would ve been hard, since for most question it differs quite a lot, or did you just choose the longest answer each time?
Number of letters isnt a great criterium and not logical at all.
What I find quite interesting is that I missed 2 and I scored a 96%. Interesting given no single question was missed by more than 30% which means there was at least a couple of topics that everyone found difficult. However, there was no single topic that everyone found difficult. A very well balanced quiz. My favorite of the multiple choice ones thus far.
not all cities are capitals, I curious where your confusion lies. That you think all cities are capitals, or that just because it isnt a capital it cant be a city either, or something completely different I cant come up with atm.
I thought radar was the correct answer because it's not a word, it is an acronym for radio detection and ranging. Maybe it's use has become so common it's now considered a word, but it's origin set it apart from the others for me.
RAdio Detection And Ranging. I agree that a different word should be used that is not an acronym. I say that mainly because I missed that one and it was pretty obvious what quiz master was going for. Face palm on my part. I answered quickly and just assumed it was Radar because it was an acronym.
Finally an argument that actually makes sense! You are right, though I didnt even look at radar like that, though officially an acronym it has allways been used as a word, and when people say it they dont think of each individal letter and the meaning behind it in their head like with most other acronyms.
Laser is another one of those words people dont see as an acronym, though in that case it is even deeper, because if you say it for radar (or sonar) people say ow yeah, if you say the abreviation for laser, people say, (ow) really?? and might not even believe you. (since in many cases people make acronyms for things that never originally were acronyms)
This argument is not very strong. We are looking for some aspect that three share and that the odd one out does not share. "Not being an acronym" is not a very strong connection between the other three words. If you had to choose between radar, scuba, laser, and measles then it makes sense to consider the acronym aspect. In this case, however, you're doing the quiz backwards. For instance: Ed Sheeran, Adele, Drake, and Barrack Obama. Would you say it's a legitimate argument that Ed Sheeran is the odd one out because he's got red hair? Of course not.
I thought the cities question was east vs west of the Mississippi. Which would lend the answer to being Raleigh. Probably overthought it. Great quiz though
The Mississippi actually runs through Minneapolis, so it couldn't be that. But, even if Minneapolis proper was fully to the west, I think knowing exactly how a city is situated to the river it's on is a little too obscure.
all your categories are wrong like u.s. cities, theyre all cities and then it says state capital in the explanation and historical leaders. you need to fix this
None of the categories are wrong. Maybe you don't understand how to take the quiz. You have to choose the one option in the category that does not belong based on an unstated criterion. All of the cities listed in question 2 are US cities, yes, but three of them are also capitals of US states. The one that is not a state capital is the correct answer.
He doesnt "need to fix" anything...you need to read and look at the quiz again... They are all cities and one of them doesnt belong. your task is to figure out which (after spotting why).
If I showed you, (in real life) 4 animals and asked which was the odd one out, let's say 3 mammals and 1 bird, you would chose the bird right? and not say there is something wrong they are áll animals.
Please think about what you are saying before you are using such strong language like WRONG and FIX IT Even if you did have a comment that was true and made sense and there was an error, no need to be so harsh and attacking/demanding. you are not the king and he is not your subject or slave.
(this last part is directed at more people, the YOU NEED TO FIX THIS, sort of gets on my nerves, I guess it is by people used to getting what they want and getting it instantly. He doesnt need to do anything, you can inform him of errors, but he owes you nothing)
This logic is flawed. The quiz intends that you see that three of the items share some unique characteristic. But using the acronym origin is looking at a unique characteristic of just one item. I could say that Cujo is the odd one out because it's the only one with a rabid dog. This is the same logic that you are using for the acronym argument. That doesn't make sense for this type of quiz.
Rule of thumb for these kinds of quizzes: you're not looking for differences, you're looking for similarities. Remember, it's "Which one doesn't belong." In order to know what doesn't belong in a certain group, you have to define the group, and to really figure out what doesn't belong, you need to define it as exclusively as possible. It's much more useful to define a group — and thus its exclusions — as "palindromes" than it is to define a group as "not acronyms."
100% on the first try, though admittedly I only picked my answer for #2 because I thought it was based on latitude and for #4 and #15 I hadn't heard of the people that were the correct answers so I assumed it must've been them, despite not knowing exactly what the other 3 had in common
i thought that question #17 is about words that have Latin origin. kayak derives from Inuit, all the other words have roots in Latin (even "radar" is from "radio"). was misleading a little

Earl Grey: 1
I answered Earl Grey and got it wrong now i'm sad
