Biggest cities in the world throughout history-EXTREME
Name the largest cities in history. You can enter either use the contemporary or the historical name. The quiz is based on two sources. First, on 'Four Thousand Years of Urban Growth' by Tertius Chandler. His work is only available for purchase, but you can check the source for free through the following website: [https://www.thingsmadethinkable.com/item/top_ten_cities_through_history.php]
For more modern figures (from 1975 onwards), the UN numbers were used, based on this website: [https://www.bluemarblecitizen.com/megacities](https://www.bluemarblecitizen.com/megacities).
The city marked in red indicates an agglomeration consisting of multiple cities.
When I typed in "Beijing" it gave me Peking for a bunch of years: 1250, 1300, 1350, 1400, 1500, 1550, 1650, 1800, 1825, 1850, and 1875. However it did not give it for 1450, 1600, 1700, or 1750.
Because Beijing gave me the first ones, I assumed I was looking for a different city for the remainder and it never crossed my mind to try "Peking."
I'm assuming this is just an oversight, and not intentional? Either way: fun quiz! Well done!
(A few of these surprised me; I was floored to discover that Lhasa had ever been one of the 10 largest cities in the world!)
I really like this, but feel there's a few add-ons still needed for multiple names for the same city, like Izmir for Smyrna and Peking/Beijing. That said, i will play this again...
