Philippines, Taiwan and Cyprus are my main issues, but I often miss a dumb one or two. This time I almost missed Peru. I was following the Pacific coast down the Americas and for some reason my brain was like, "Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Chile"
I always forget because as I scan through the map in my head, I go through the middle east, eastern europe, russia, and the stan countries, and I don't really consider Turkey to be any of those, they are just right in the middle, so I always forget Turkey
Me too on Philippines. They always evade my brain's map. I think I don't categorize them with East Asia (china, Japan, Taiwan, Koreas), and not with the Indochina peninsula countries, and also not with the southern island countries, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore etc. I really should be grouping with Indonesia and friends.
What about Argentina? In some other quizzes it is considered to border the Pacific Ocean, see e.g. https://www.jetpunk.com/user-quizzes/30825/countries-bordering-two-or-more-oceans
I'm brazilian, I wrong Colombia and I write "North Corea", with C, and it's North Korea, with K! I think it's because in Brazil it's "Coreia do Norte". OMG!
India borders the Indian ocean, specifically the Arabian, Laccadive, Andaman, and the Bay of Bengal, but not the Pacific. Indonesia shields the Pacific and in between Indonesian Islands, Cape York, and the Malacca Strait are the endpoints for the Pacific.
I’ve always dreamed of sunbathing on a Thai beach in the, er, Pacific Ocean? Hang on a minute! I have made thirteen circumnavigations of the world, and the previous sentence is simply preposterous. Whatever logic you are using fails. As all seas in the world are physically connected to all other seas, ocean boundaries as such are a human creation. They are arbitrary, but work best when they accurately reflect the geographical reality. Saying Thailand borders the Pacific would be like saying Montenegro borders the Atlantic.
Thailand borders the Andaman Sea to the West, and the Gulf of Thailand to the South and East. The latter is considered a part of the South China Sea, which itself borders the Pacific Ocean.
What next? Ukraine having a coast on the Mediterranean? Russia on the North Sea?
I mean, I see your point, but geographers agree the South China Sea is part of the Pacific Ocean. The Gulf of Thailand is much better connected to the South China Sea than the Mediterranean is to the Atlantic or the Black is to the Mediterranean. And yes, you can consider the world's oceans one gigantic body of water, but there's a strong argument for where the Pacific ends based on the positions of Sumatra and Java and Australia. It's not perfect by any means, but by your logic, continents don't exist either. Continents and oceans are convenient ways for us to compartmentalize locations.
The only reason I got them now, was because I started thinking about what I always forget when I read this comment
And Burkina Faso, but that has nothing to do with this quiz.
Good to know there are people with the same struggles
Australia: 278,932 away, Taiwan: 1,962,041 away, Chile: 6,662,615 away, Guatemala: 7,863,248 away, Ecuador: 8,135,762 away
To all of them what?
And if they needed a map they wouldnt be experts would they..
I have a feeling you didnt get a score you were happy with.
