In each group, name any answer which matches the first category to reveal the second category, then name any answer which applies to both categories to reveal a third, and so on.
Shouldn't Bhutan (Thimpu) work up to the capital-with-exactly-six-letters line? Bhutan is one word; in Asia; fewer than 10 million; Thimpu has six letters. (I can imagine, by the way, how easy it would be to omit a possible answer when making this quiz.)
@roleybob, I wanted to make the quiz as accurate as possible! Generally my grammar is pretty darn good, but sometimes little things trip me up. I felt it was necessary to fix it in this case. (although as Sean said, in the case of people both are valid, so it wasn't necessary to change both)
With an average of 15/20, and 7.9% of people getting 100%, I think the time is okay for now. You can see from the stats that there's a nice bell curve, leaning towards the top, meaning that the time is nicely placed.
Awesome idea! Maybe another 60-90 seconds would make it a tad easier. The way it is, I left the most specific answer in each category for the end so I don't waste time during the quiz, but I didn't have time to go back to them.
If you got lucky and thought of the narrowest answer in the first 1 or 2 broadest answers for each category this would be super easy. If you have to jump around for every answer it's time consuming. I ran out of time.
Bolivia has a population greater than 10 million, is not in Asia, has a capital with seven letters or less, and ends in 'ia' but is not accepted for the second-to-last question in category 2
Sorry about that, I missed Bolivia due to the discrepancy between whether La Paz or Sucre is the capital! I have now fixed this, just waiting approval :)
Czechia is not included in that since we use Czech Republic as the JetPunk name, despite its official short name being Czechia.
However if we don't use a standard (in this case the Countries of the World quiz) then there's a debate for many other countries as to what should and shouldn't count.
Cool idea! It took a few moments to understand the directions, and I nearly got stuck on the capitals questions (cities are not one of my strong points), but I eventually made it through.
Funny how Oman was the least guessed country. For that category, all my answers were Oman. It was the first thing that came to mind and I was like "oh, it works for this one.. and this one.. this too" and so on.
But, the capital of Luxembourg is Luxembourg City. That, obviously ends in a "Y". Maybe add a line in the intro saying you don't count the 'city' bit. Great quiz otherwise
We use the names as featured in the JetPunk World Capitals quiz, there it is presented as "Luxembourg" and so is done as such here. (For comparison, Mexico and Panama both include "city" in their answer to that quiz)
Gah! For some reason I didn't realise you could put the same answer more than once, so I didn't get the final answer in any category because I'd already given it.
Thanks so much! And, luckily for you, I have made more and will continue to do so (they just take a long time to make). The full series can be found here: Category Elimination
Currently there's only 3 Countries ones and a U.S. States version. I plan on making more though!
Thanks! Sadly, there would be no way for me to implement this. Although, if you don't get any of the last categories you only end up with 3 points thanks to the way points work on JetPunk. So I guess you could argue that the last answers are worth 2 points :)
Though its short name is officially Czechia, we still use Czech Republic here on JetPunk. Until it updates on the Countries of the World quiz, it'll stay as Czech Republic here.
"Macedonia" officially changed its short name to "North Macedonia", which we adopted to using on JetPunk, thus is not a one-word country satisfying the first of yellow :)
The elimination concept is really nice. The questions could be a bit more interesting - I personally get very turned off by questions about the number of letters in a name
same here. I was really scratching my head over that one and was disappointed that it was in fact not a country starting with a letter *between* A and L
In step 2, put all of your answers separated by "|", then in step 3 change the typeins to be "custom", then go back to step 2 and you can replace the answer text to be a check mark without affecting typeins.
I see multiple posts about people using Oman on here...
but here's mine.
I couldn't figure out the answer to orange, so when I had five seconds left I randomly tried Oman while consciously thinking that it wouldn't work, I don't even know what the capital of Oman is. It worked :)
Stewart, can you teach me how to make the 'categories' into two rows? I'm struggling to do so when I am trying to make a elimination quiz myself: it appears to line up in one single row instead of two while I was designing grid. This is the preview of the quiz: https://www.jetpunk.com/create-quiz/1475822/preview
So, fundamentally, the structure of the design grid is as follows:
You have a "block" which is like a table, this is as tall as it needs to be, and you can only place tables next to each (not above or below).
Inside a "block" you have rows and columns forming cells.
This means, what you want to do, is to move the blue and white categories under the green and red. This can be done by, adding a row to the bottom of the green and red, and then dragging each row of the blue categories to the bottom of the green, and then each row of the white to the bottom of the red.
You will then have to recreate the headers (labelling "white" and "blue" categories) and then perhaps add a single row with "borders" style = 0 (to add a spacer as I have above).
Three things. One, I went with Oman and Luxembourg for first try. Second, you should make more in this series. Great Quiz! 3. Am I the only one who sees MfundoNkambule's comment? Because it said March 25, and today is the 17th (or 16th depends where you are). Which is like in the future, or is there a feature where you can set the time.
I love these types
they make my day better
In each group, you need to find a valid answer to the current category and every category above it within that group.
In your case you were looking for "Countries in Africa ending in A with a population over 20 million".
It’s Ethiopia.
Good quiz though
Could be wrong though
person/persons
people/peoples
person/people
English can be extremely annoying sometimes...
great idea, thank you so much, i enjoyed greatly
However if we don't use a standard (in this case the Countries of the World quiz) then there's a debate for many other countries as to what should and shouldn't count.
There is already a sequel here: Countries #2
I have others planned as well, but they take a long time to make!
But, the capital of Luxembourg is Luxembourg City. That, obviously ends in a "Y". Maybe add a line in the intro saying you don't count the 'city' bit. Great quiz otherwise
I think it should.
Currently there's only 3 Countries ones and a U.S. States version. I plan on making more though!
I think it would be even better if you got most points for the last answer in each category - which is obviously the hardest
We want more, sir! :D
deletereply
but here's mine.

great quiz

March 25th is in the past, today is May 17th. You cannot set the time of a comment, but they could be from a previous year.
