Thank you so much for that! I looked back at my spreadsheet, turns out that I accidentally put Rep of Congo's population into romania's line! Which meant everything went wrong >.< I've fixed it now though :) When you're having to sort through 196 data profiles and retrieving 4 different facts about each there was bound to be a mistake somewhere!
It was a lot of work! Took only about 2.5 hours including a toilet break to retrieve and sort all the data! Hopefully I can use it in the future (with correct values of course) for future quizzes! Let me know if there are any I could do? (Besides the obvious greatest & least globally and by continent)
The constitution of Monaco is at: http://en.gouv.mc/Government-Institutions/Institutions/Constitution-of-the-Principality#eztoc1036069_10 "Art. 78. The territory of the Principality forms a single commune. Art. 79. (amended by Law n°1.249 of April 2nd 2002) - The Commune is administered by a municipality composed of the mayor and deputies designated by the Communal Council from amongst its members."
I, therefore, don't see how anyone could live in the country of Monaco without living in the city of Monaco.
I am not sure about all the laws and stuff. I am simply using the values for population and capital cities that wikipedia provides. Thank you for bringing this up though, But I suspect that Jerry is right, the other 4.8% were on holiday :D
Okay, after some research, I think I figured it out. The estimate wikipedia is using for the capital is from 2011, but it is using the 2014 estimate for the population, resulting in a gap. I will update my spreadsheet and this quiz to allow for the law you stated above. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
Kuwait's percentage is pretty high (about 70%) if you count the metro population of Kuwait City, so I assume this quiz uses city limits and not metro area for population?
I also had the same question. I was kinda confused as well and while the city limit populations are correct that’s probably not the right data set to use for this quiz because 95% of Kuwait’s population lives in the Kuwait City urban area. There’s no other cities in the whole country and only a handful of towns. To say that most of Kuwait doesn’t live in the capital city regardless of the extent of city limits is mostly incorrect in my opinion. Highly suggest using Urban or metropolitan data to greatly improve the accuracy and quality of the quiz. www.CityPopulation.de is what most featured quizzes and quizmaster uses for accurate non questionable data. Highly recommend changing your data set. I stopped taking the quiz after I saw a few obvious answers were missing.
As mentioned below, this quiz is over 5 years old and from when I started on JetPunk. It needs updating with data to follow JetPunk standards (as you mention), I just don't have time to update it currently, and had no idea it was spotlighted.
Kuwait should definitely be here. I suspect you used the "city proper" population, which doesn't make much sense when comparing sizes of cities. Should've used the urban area population, which doesn't take artificial administrative borders into account.
Please double check everything (Mongolia should be there) and also specify somewhere that you are only using population within city limits and not metro area (which would change things significantly).
I, therefore, don't see how anyone could live in the country of Monaco without living in the city of Monaco.
